I'm new to the site. I have been recently diagnosed and have decided to go the natural route without medication. I have been seeing a holistic nutritionist and he has changed my diet and given me natural remedies to fight this disease. I want to hear from anyone who has gone this route in their treatment of MS.

At the end of October I spent a week at a health spa in Florida. Not the pamper you with chocolates and champagne kind of spa but one that does raw foods, wheat grass and juices as well as a variety of other holistic treatments. I have to admit that I felt really good while I was there and that change was within a couple of days. My body detox'd from the sugar and caffeine and other junk it's had a lifetime of dealing with. I firmly believe I could change the course of this illness given the right circumstances. I believe it enough that I'm planning a move to Florida before the end of 2007. I am taking medication to help me with the symptoms I'm experiencing. But I think you can combine the two approaches. I am also taking a lot of vitamins and herbs I was "prescribed" at the spa. Use what you believe is making a difference in how you feel. I also believe massages help a great deal, as do regular visits to my chiropractor. Good luck!

Be aware that Florida (and other areas of the country) is very hot and humid. You may find yourself very heat sensitive - -many folks with MS are -- and unable to function well in that cllimate.  You might want to make a temporary move, in SUMMER, and see how well you function, before making it permanent.  While obviously folks with MS live there, some of us moved out of that climate because we grew tired of living inside under air conditioning 10 months of the year.

As for natural treatments -- while diet, exercise, massage, all that, can make you feel better, none of them will actually treat the core problem, the destruction of myelin that is going on continuously (assuming you're diagnosed with MS).  Only the interferon drugs and Copaxone have a promise of slowing the course of the disease.  Your approach, Vickie -- combining them -- has much more promise than deciding to only go the "natural" route, risking severe disability with just one major exacerbation.
...I am not a doctor, nor health professional, and don't pretend to be one, here.....
