My name is Theresa. I am 29 and was diagnosed with MS last February. I have a 1 year old, I started getting really sick after I gave birth. In the hospital I could not feel my feet. I just had my second MRI and things are looking good, no new lesions since last Feb. I am on interferon-avonex. I get really sick each time I take a shot. I go to an awesome Neuro and he really wants me to stay on it, b/c of the no new lesions. The thing I have major issues with is migraines. They are almost all the time and I was wondering how you all deal with them??? if you have them.... What works for everyone? I have a lot of pains and kind of want to find something that works for the pain. TIA for any info you all have!!!

Hey Theresa!

I'm glad u started this thread and told us a little about u'rself. I posted to u'r other thread and told u i'm undx'd, but u'r situation sounds a little like mine. I didn't start to notice symptoms til last Feb, but in the hosp after the birth of my first child, i would get numb legs that lasted about three months. It went away so i forgot about it. Seems many here can relate the beginning of their symptoms to an event in their lives.

On the migraines, i am going thru something like this now. I get terrible pain in my right eye. I have really dry eyes and a prob with part of the cornea, but i'm told that's not the reason for the pain. The docs say it's migraines. So, to answer u'r question, i just started some new med for that called Maxalt and it's wonderful! It's taken at pain onset and the type i take just disolves on u'r tongue. So far i've only used it twice, but both times have just been like a miracle! It takes about an hour to really be free of any pain, but that's soooo much better than days!! There are other meds out there. Some are preventative like Topamax and many have much success with them, but for me the Maxalt has been great. I hope this helps and u get some relief from u'r migraines. Welcome again to the board!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I tried topomax but it made me feel so jittery. I will have to ask the doc about maxalt. That sound interesting and better than dealing with a mirgraine for days. I describe my migraines as someone is sitting on the back of my eyes. The pressure is intense! I have yet to have my eyes checked.

Hey Theresa

It'd be a great idea to see an eye doc just to be sure, but u'r pain sounds a lot like mine. Mine feels like it's inside and behind my eye..as well as sometimes sitting on my eye in the back. Just as u described. It feels like my eye may explode at times and hurt sooo bad. Yes, VERY intense!! Nothing i've ever done/tried has helped...but funny...this all only started with me after my symptoms began in Feb. Yes, the topamax made me jittery as well and didn't seem to be helping. I didn't give it too much time tho (to be fair)..about a month and a half...but with the pain i really couldn't afford to continue 'trying' it. My doc was trying to get me some samples of Maxalt when he prescribed it, but they were out. Maybe u'r doc would have some u could try before purchasing. It's quite expensive if u'r not covered by prescription insurance. My prescription for 9 pills was $198!!! Just some info that may be of help down the road. Take care and i hope u get some help with this very soon.
