Just wondering if anyone might know the significance of high albumin in CSF?  Mine was 4840 and the normal range is 3200-4800.  I know that's not too high, which is probably why my doctor didn't mention it. (I requested a copy of my LP results and noticed it.)  I'm just curious though.

Lisa,
I found this on the internet.  I had read this before also.  You probably had some bleeding or trauma during the tap.  My docs never tell me when things are "slightly off" either.  I don't understand why there are guidelines and then they excuse them when they are not way off!  LOL!

PROTEIN Total protein levels in CSF are normally very low, and albumin makes up approximately two-thirds of the total. High levels are seen in many conditions, including bacterial and fungal meningitis, tumors, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and traumatic tap.

That small a number is really statistically insignificant....a natural variant..which is why he didn't mention it.

Thanks, Ladies. I didn't think it was anything to worry about.  Just mainly curious.
