I'm sure my insurance company must think I'm falling apart.  I swear I've been to the doctor more in the last year than I have in my entire life time previously.

Anyway, I had an appointment with a hand specialist today about the carpal tunnel syndrome and other problems I'm having with both hands.  He recommended a carpal tunnel release surgery for my left hand which has severe CTS, so I'm scheduled for that on March 1st, the Thursday before spring break here at work.  I'll be out for a week, until March 12, so that'll give me a bit of time to recuperate.

He also gave me a cortisone injection into my right hand for a trigger finger (that's a funny name for a condition!  Makes me feel like an Old West gun slinger!)  My middle finger on my right hand has been feeling like there's a tight band around it and it pops when I move it.  That injection hurt, but hopefully the doctor said it should cure the problem.

Still no answers on the other stuff that's going on.  I've been feeling better for the past week or two, so maybe the worst of it is behind me.  Keeping my triggery fingers crossed that it is!   :-)

Hugs,

Lisa ~

Hey Lisa!

GOOD!!! Glad to hear about the injection and surg. I say glad because some progress seems to be being made. I do hope the surg goes well and u have excellent results with it and the injection. Be sure to take it easy on that hand after returning to work tho...just a week seems short to recover. As i recall, u'r a univ prof, so all the more work on u'r hand. Hang in there. Sounds like some progress and that's always good. May not be to the final stretch yet, but u'r moving. ;)

No, no, no, DON'T cross your fingers!! Not good with carpal tunnel!! :)

I hope your surgery goes well, and your hands stop hurting so much. March 5 seems like a long way away...maybe your hands will be OK for the next month.

No, both hands don't have to hurt.  Numbness, and/or tingling, and/or pain in BOTH hands is the clue. If it was only in ONE hand, then it's not as likely to be carpal tunnel, although it can sometimes occur only in one hand, if you only use one hand for a particular repetitive motion.

Good luck with your surgery Lisa!  I hope it helps with the pain issues.  That trigger finger is a bizarre experience.  I had that happen to my index finger several years ago, but I never got to the point of needing the cortisone injections.  Please let us know if that helps.
