Are evoked potentials the same as optokinetic testing? My Optokinetic tests came back abnormal indicating "CNS pathological condition".

I am scheduled for EMG tomorrow. Scheduled for EEG and Spinal Tap on Monday. In the midst of all this testing the following conditions have been found inadvertantly:

1) Rickets!!!  My Vitamin D levels were at 10!!  Rheumatologist asked me if my back and other bones are ever sore--I said, "yes--I have had quite a bit of pain for 2-3 years, but I finally gave up mentioning it to doctors because nobody seemed concerned about it". I just figured everyone's bones must hurt all the time!! I am scheduled for a bone scan next week--am currently on 50,000 IU of vitamin D.

2) Bi-laterlal carpal tunnel (found on ncs) --neurologist asked me if my wrists ever hurt--I said, "yes--they have hurt for years, but I finally quit mentioning it to doctors because nobody seemed concerned about it". I just figured everyone's wrists/arms/neck must hurt all the time.

3) Thyroiditis -- my TPO was 212!!  Doc asked if I feel tired alot.......I  said, "yes--I have been complaining of fatigue for over 9 months, but ......well, you know the rest....

4) Sciatic neuropathy in left leg----now this is an interesting one---it is my right leg that usually hurts!!  Go figure....

I can't figure out why I am depressed..... confused

Are you in a country other than the US?  Rickets!! is a very unusual finding!  I don't think the optokinetic testing is the same as "evoked potentials" -- tell us more what the test was like, and maybe we can figure it out.  But obviously it found somethy awry with your central nervous system.

Many of those ailments can cause MS-like symptoms.  Maybe once you get all that back into balance, you'll feel much better.  As for the sciatica -- often when you've got a leg or back hurting, you'll put stress on the other leg to compensate for the leg that's not working well..which might explain what's going on with your neuropathy in the left leg.

When you say "mentioning it to doctors" -- I find I have to be more than casual about ailments with my doctor, even though I love her, and know she's excellent.  I have to be *very clear*: This is ailing me. It started (name date) and is continuing, with these variances..  And repeat until she acknowledges she heard me, and is ready to respond.
...I am not a doctor, nor health professional, and don't pretend to be one, here.....

Thank you for your replies, Uppitycats....you seem like a pretty smart guy!!

Sometimes it seems as though you need to knock the doctors over the head with a two-by-four to get their attention. I think many of them become so jaded and blase redface   about everything that it is difficult for them to see each of us as a new, fresh case just waiting to be cracked!!!  Each person and their boring ailments just kinda blend into the next guy's.

Incidentally, I live in the U.S., am outside several hours per day (fieldwork), and consume tons of dairy products. My doctor was so surprised by the Vitamin D results that she had them run again---first time was 18.8---second was 10!!!  They can't believe it, either.  Obviously an absorption problem of some kind there.

I am not embarrassed about being on antidepressants (which I have taken for years), but am surprised at my Doc's recommendation for an anti-psychotic. I think her rationale was to get me to stay in bed--she knows me well enough to know I won't unless I have no choice. Believe me, this drug is certainly doing the job!!

Thanks again, Uppity for your advice and reassurance.
