Hello All,

I saw my Neuro today and he told me that my symptoms are a flare up from my first bought in 2000. Is this normal? He wants to put me on steroids for 3 days through IV. Anyone else had this? If so any side effects? Did it help? My Fatigue and muscle pain are the worst and I am hoping for some relief.

Thank you,
D

Hey D

Geez...i'm sorry. Yes, it can be normal with ms to have a flare as u'r experiencing. IV steroids are used fairly often as well. I'm not dx'd so can't give u any direct input as to the experience with steroids, but many here have and can give input. Please let us know how u are and how u'r doing on the steroids. Best wishes to u!

Hi D,

Yes it's normal.  Sometimes for really bad flare ups they will prescribe the IV steroids to help the flare end sooner and give you some relief.  It's been a long time since my husband did that treatment, but I don't think he had too many issues with it other than a nasty metallic taste which was solved with peppermint candy.  I'm sure others will be along soon to share their experiences with you but I found a site for you to read on what you might expect.  Good luck with it and I hope it makes you feel better!

I guess I should have clarified my Dr. says I don't have MS because my MRI and LP came back normal. But in 2000 I had swelling of the spine. I am so confused If I don't have it why is he treating me for it? He said it is a flare up from last time due to comprimised immune system. Does any of this sounds normal?

Hey again D,

My apologies.  Steroids, oral and IV have many uses other than MS.   If you have some really bad inflammation in your spine your doc feels that oral steroids wouldn't be strong enough to take care of it, then they might prescribe the IV kind.  Think of it as a heavy duty anti-inflammatory.  Hope it helps!
