Hi all, I like many others have not posted in awhile, but read your posts everyday :)

I am still waiting to hear about my appeal for my insurance to approve Tysabri.  I've had a couple minor flares in the last few months and I believe it was Betaseron that helped keep them from being worse.. (the last 3 fingers to dodge being numb feel stiff and weird and my stomach is numb).

I had an infection requiring IV antibiotics a couple weeks ago and now apparently have a virus of some sort that is causing worse fatigue than normal and a low grade fever.  I can't stand for long right now without needing to sit so I am taking some time off work.

I have had this on and off again sore throat for a couple weeks now, mostly in the evening.  The doctor couldn't see any reason for it being sore but took a swab anyway.  Question is, can MS cause a sore throat?  Can being run down by itself cause one?  Weird that she couldn't see anything.  It usually comes on at night and feels sorta tight and dry? eyes

I'm hoping whatever this virus may be takes a hike so I can see where I am at.  I've felt that my MS is worsening and I am anxious to see where I really am at.  Next month I am going to Florida with my nephew and family for his wish through Make-a-wish.  I rented a scooter down there because I know I won't last long walking in the heat, or walking at all for that matter.  That was hard for me.  It will be the first "visible" sign of this disease and I'm nervous and unhappy about it.

Hope you are all doing ok, and thanks for listening

I'm sorry you're feeling poorly!  No, MS can't cause a sore throat...but having a sore throat and other illnesses sure can make your MS worse, particularly if you have a fever.  Fortunately the "worse" is only temporary -- once you get rid of the fever, the MS symptoms should subside some.

If the sore throat seems to only come at night -- maybe it's an allergy?  And do you sleep with your mouth open? (Yeah, I know..how would you KNOW if you sleep with your mouth open??)  Anyway, there are lots of allergies in the summer of course -- all that pollen and stuff blooming everywhere, and folks can develop allergies even when they've not had them before.  Or a sinus drainage can cause a sore throat.

Anyway, I hope that gets cleared up and you're feeling better for your Florida trip.  Going to Florida in the summer time wouldn't be high on my list of places to go, so it's good you've planned ahead and gotten a scooter there.  Do take it easy -- the Florida heat and humidity can only add to your fatigue!

Hey Shar!!

Good to see u again! Gosh i'm so sorry to hear u'r having probs. I agree with Uppity, maybe u'r experiencing allergies or if u sleep under a fan maybe too. Wow..trip to Florida?? Well i'm way down here in the south and can tell u that u better be really careful friend! The heat is one thing, but the humidity is horrid and will really affect u. Be careful of things...the heat index here is running about 5 degrees above actual temp...so down there on the water will be worse. Take extra precautions just in case. Take a cooling vest or some cold water and cloths to wrap around ur neck and plenty of drinking water too. Plan on lots of inside activities if u can. Nights on the beach will be better of course, but still be careful. I hope u enjoy it, but be prepared friend. It's a beautiful state and so much fun and u should find lots of good memories there. Take good care!

Thanks for the info :)

If this wasn't my nephew's wish and he wasn't sweet enough to invite Aunty Shar along I would definitely not be going to Florida in the summer either!  He is 15 and has Muscular Dystrophy and took years to decide to spend his wish at DisneyWorld.  We almost ended up going in July so September has got to be somewhat better I hope?  Gawd I hope it turns out ok, I'll be kinda glad to have it overwith.

This will be his first time using a scooter (or wheelchair) too, so I guess we are in it together and hopefully it will make it a bit easier.  My sister had originally rented him a wheelchair but changed her mind and got the scooter.  I'm so glad!!  His first experience "on wheels" should be as fun as possible, especially on his big trip, and I would not feel right on a scooter if he couldn't be too.  He's actually looking forward to driving it, so thats good :-)

Hey Shar!!

Sounds like a great trip and for a wonderful boy! Yeah, the scooters should be lots better. One other thing i was going to mention...Disney World is reallly expensive...the food and drinks...so maybe bring u'r own drinks in if u can. U'll also want to try to visit one location and it's nearby activities for one day and then another the next day. Reason being, u'll wear out so quickly in that heat since most of the parks are far apart. Just fyi I hope u guys really enjoy it...and yes, Sept should be better, but not too much better. Take what precautions u can and just blow it all out!! Have a great time friend...u so deserve it.

Hi Shar,

I’m glad you posted this update, and hope you start feeling better really soon! That is so great that you and your nephew will be trying out scooters for the first time together…maybe you can have scooter races? Watch out Disney World come September, huh J. What is the status on swimming with the dolphins while you are down there? I realize I need to start bugging you about it again.

I hope today is a better day for you,

Sunny

I am definitely going to check into a cooling vest and whatever else might be helpful, thanks Rhonda.  I did order a canopy for my scooter, so hopefully that helps too... typing that felt funny, still can't believe I need a scooter!  eyes   ah well.

Uppity, yes I hope this viral thing is gone before my trip too.  My throat feels better, but I have pain behind my eyes and am sooooo tired.  I think my spleen may be enlarged? I have pain on that side and my other lymph glands (like my groin) are taking turns being sore too.  sigh.  I guess all that can be done is rest, so I'm doin it.

Thanks for reminding me Sunny, I need to check with my sister about the dolphins again.  It costs almost $300 per person so I may be going alone, but that's fine with me as long as I get that dream checked off my list! :)

Take care all,

Shar
