Hi , Im fairly new here and posted on another post here, I just got to a neuro for the 1st time in my life a month ago, I know none of you are doctors here but the neuro was super nice I did not pass 3 of her 6 tests (physical ones) in her office , I walked like I was drunk, and could not hold my arms up etc.  I already have thyroid and lupus which was diagnosed by my internal med and a endo doc 8 yrs ago, this is what he neuro is looking for:  MS,,,,,,Myasthenia Gravis (sp?) which she said is a condition of the thyroid of the muscles,,,,,,,,,,,,Pinched nerve,,,,,,,,,,,,diabetes,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,herniated disc,,,,,,,,,,I see her for the results on the28th of this monththis coming friday which cannot come soon enough,  Im sorta scared I hate being that way but lupus/thyroid is hard enough to deal with Im 51 yrs female and in alot ways tho I hope she comes up with something, as my symptoms got really bad about a month and a half ago with leg spasms, neck pain, headaches , back pains and blurry vision was like out of body experience, She did put me on Lyrica for the pain and to help with sleep as the ER changed my ativan to valium since it was longer acting .  I hate taking meds but so far have to the Lyrica is ok I know it takes time and have only been on it for 3 weeks now, but anyof you have a neuro treat you anyways even if you have physcial symptoms??  I took an MRI this past week and tons of bloodwork so I will let you know what he outcome is .  Tx for listening Jonny (female)

It sounds like your neuro is doing a throught job ruling in..and ruling out..what conditions might be causing your problems.  I'm not sure I understand your question: "..any of you have a neuro treat you anyways even if you have physical symptoms"?  Yes, neuros treat the physical symptoms, whether there is an obvious cause or not...like there are meds for spasticity, for pain, for other things that aren't specific to any one disease or disorder, but could be from a variety of issues.  They'll generally not give you medicines specific for MS, though, until you do get a firm MS diagnosis, or a "probable MS" diagnosis.

The blood tests were to rule out other things -- there is no blood test that will confirm MS.  Hopefully the MRI will show something, or the blood tests, so you can get a firm diagnosis.
...I am not a doctor, nor health professional, and don't pretend to be one, here.....

Hi Thanks for responding, I think what I meant was I was just afraid my neuro doc would just send me on my merry way but like I said she did start a med named Lyrica for a number of things the main was pain, But Im just so sick right now I know IM not thinking clearly, Im sure as you said she would  treat my physcial symptoms no matter what the diagnosis and yes I know there is not bloodwork test for MS, but the others there are , so anyways my question was would she treat me anyways for the things she thinks is going on I hope that made sense.  Tx Jonny (female)

Hi Jonny,

By talking to you in chat I know you are anxiously awaiting this appointment and I do hope it goes well for you.  Please let us know!!  Whether or not she will treat you based on physical symptoms only is hard to say.  Some doctors will treat certain dx with clinical evidence while others like to wait and see what tests show.  She is treating your physical symptoms right now tho which is a good sign that she's not planning on dismissing you without getting to the bottom of what's going on.  Please try to hang in there and let us know how we can help.
