I had a box of pouches once that all but one leaked around the ring in exactly the same spot. I happened to be camping that weekend and thank goodness I had decided to bring my entire bag of gear instead of just a few because I was in a hurry. It was a very small slow leak that didnt make a huge mess but ironically during one of the numerous changes, at night while half asleep and cursing the company that made pouches, I failed to fasten the clip tight and thus ten minutes later - HUGE MESS!

Sounds like the sticker on your wafer was an after thought . . . . . . . they would think twice about sending you faulty product if they had any idea what it is like to "accident" with one.

Ash,
ConvaTec makes both Stomahesive (regular wear time) wafers and Durahesive (extended wear) wafers. The products look nearly the same. The box should tell you if the product is Durahesive or Stomahesive. Is it possible they sent you the the wrong "type" of wafer. Hollister uses Flextend vs. Flexwear. You have to check these labels carefully.

I am sorry that you are leaking with your wafers. I am very impressed that you are so intune with your body that you can recognize when your wafer has become compermised. That's great. Do you keep a spare bag with you? I always keep a cap and a 1-pc in my purse just for emergencies.

Ash,

It does not seem logical that you could be having this problem if the bags they sent you were the same as the ones you are already using. Do you think this could have been a batch of defective bags? My home care nurse once told me that she noticed that some of the sample bags that had been in her car for a while would become damaged due to the heat exposure. She was giving me some samples from her car one day and said "Don't take these samples, they have been in my car a while." I wonder if they sent you a batch of "damaged" bags. Maybe they were sitting in storage for a while or something. Do they have a date on them?

I would call and complain. However, I have heard that ConvaTec customer support is NOT very helpful.

Sorry to hear about ur leak, but u seem to b really cool about it. I probably wouldv locked myself n a stall and cried. U also seem to have a pretty cool fiance which is cool.
Ash can I ask a question since I'm soon to b n ur position (without insurance). I don't know how long uv been without, but how do/will u get ur supplies?
I read on another board where there was a story of lady who had no supplies and just sat n the tub while her stoma leaked. Do u guys think that could really happen?
I worry so much about how I'll get supplies when my insurance runs out

For those in the US who are without insurance, try http://www.ostogroup.org/ They will give you free supplies - you only pay postage :)

this is a little sneaky, but order samples and have them sent to your friends and family. Whne i was pregnant i signed up for coupons for formula in all kinds of people's name, my 80 year old was expecting, lol.

Wow shaz and summer those are actually great ideas! Summer that's awesome! My cousin did the same thing b4 her son. When we'd go 2 baby fairs she'd fill out a bunch of sample cards and use all of our addresses. I never thought of that for ostomy supplies. Iv said it b4 and I'll say it again, u guys are the most resourceful people iv ever met! (Online) lol
