You all are so nice that I wanted to share a family crisis that we are having.  My mom (70 yrs old) had an emergency appendectomy (appendix) on Friday.  They removed it before it rupured but she had a really distended tummy from the beginning.  Well, this happended on Friday and she has just gotten worse.  She went into respirtory arrest in the middle of the night last night and turned blue.  They had to manually breathe for her until they got her on a ventalator.  Now they have her in like a drug coma so she will sleep so they can keep her stablized.  They think that her belly is so swollen because her colon is still not working from surgery and then the gas that she already had in it.  Her belly is extremely distended. They are thinking that maybe her colon etc is SO swollen that it put too much pressure on her lungs and that may be what caused her respirtory arrest last night. We are really struggling. They have her on some hard core drugs to keep her asleep because she freaks out with all the tubes in her throat and nose.

So, please say a prayer for her!!  She is SO scared.  When she woke up at 4 a.m. and called for the nurse, she asked her not to leave her because she could not breathe.  Your prayers would be really appreciated!!!

Chili,

You know that you can share anything with us. That is what this great big family is for.

It probably is a good thing that they keep her in the drug induced state to keep her calm so that her system relaxes and passes the gas more easily. It's better that way than to see her sooooo scared and possibly cause other problems with blood pressure or heart. Keep thinking positive thoughts and talking positively with her even though she is asleep.

I will keep you, your mom, and your family in my prayers. Please keep us posted on your mom's progress.
