hi everyone,
i am new to ll of this and hopefully here I will be able to find some answers! I am 28yrs old and live in NJ. I have been suffering with chronic constipation for more then 20 years of my life, so I suppose you can say for most of my life. I had seen a specialist- colorectal surgeon about 10 years ago when I  actually had insurance. At that time I had a colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, cat scan, endoscopy, defography, barium enemas, sitz markers....I think you get the point. Needless to say that the tests all came back negative! The only thing that the surgeon was able to see was that I needed a rectocele which he thought would help with the symptoms, but didn't.
I suffer with excessive bloating, nausea, horrific pain, i seem to have skin problems as well. The only times that I seem to go to the bathroom to have BM is during my mentrual cycle. They have given any and all possible medications and therapies to try to reverse the problem and yet nothing! They even tried giving me meds for supposed bacteria but that too failed.
Now, for the past two years I have going to the University Hospital in Newark since I don't have health insurance and had been able to apply for charity care n attend their GI Clinic. They haven't been able to find anything to told me that there was nothing they can do to further assist me! The surgeon tells me that I am not a good candidate and shut me out! They wanted me to do yet again another defography, but to be honest at this point just don't know!
If anyone here knows where I can go to get some possible help keeping in mind that I don't have health insurance, I would greatly appreciate it...PLEASE! My condition is getting worse day by day n no one seems to believe me! HELP
I want to thank for those who have responded and do!

I also wondered why you cant have surgery. I too suffered from chronic constipation, bloating, etc. I just had a subtotal collectomy/illeostomy about 10 days ago. The surgery went very well. I am coming along very well and I am surprised at how easy the surgery was. Please write back and let us know why you cant have surgery and if you can get on medicaid. Good luck.

hey im assuming u mean UMDNJ is where u went. I dont particularly care for them. But u should try Robert Wood Johnson, its in new brunswick, the charity care application process is pretty much the same. but theyr GI team is pretty good and theyr Colorectal Surgery dept is impecable! my surgeon works there , he's great. Check it out

Thank you all for your responses and concerns! I will address all your questions:

1. I can't get on Medicaid for the stupid reason that I have automobiles under my name and since my job pays me cash, that doesn't look or work out too well for me. Sucks!

2. The lousy surgeon, Dr.Rice at UMDNJ refuses to do the surgery which I believe is for the fact that I don't have insurance. Though I do have the chairty care and they would cover it, he keeps throwing my age in the subject of discussion which I say is a cop out. He told me had I been in my 50's and over he would have done it without any hesitations! He told me that he feels that the surgery would only complicate my current condition and I had told him that it can't get worse...I only go twice a month! He told me...at least I going! What kind of surgeon would say that?

3. I had tried to schedule an appointment at the Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, but the moron of a receptionist told me that I needed a referal from a physician within the hospital, I told her where does that make any sense? I have a referal from my GI and general physician and her reply back was that, that wasn't good enough! I feel like I am getting nowhere with any of these places and my condition is worsening!

4. I have the same symptoms as most of the people on here and just don't understand why the surgeon feels like I am not a suitable candidate? I don't know what I have to do to get these people to believe me!

I wanted to ask you Praying4healing, the surgeon that you had seen at that hospital, did you have insurance or charity care? I feel like they keep dismissing me for the fact of lack of insurance. Even if I was to get medical insurance at this point, since this is a pre-existing condition I don't think they would cover me anyway. Somebody please help me!!!!

at the time i was in between insurance saharra, i was out of work on disability and was technically supposed to be covered
but because they dont take insurance payments out of disability, i was supposed to pay out of pocket and wasnt made aware so i racked up bills along the way

what if u go into the er? i know this probably isnt a bill u want to generate, but if u go in robertwood thru the er, they cant deny u treatment, u'll have to be seen by theyr GI team, and then dont mention that youv applied for charity care with UMDNJ. Theyr GI team will refer u and u can apply for charity care that way.

I do however think the receptionist was wrong, mayb u can try their patient advocate or patient rights office? or mayb call back and try to get a different receptionist?

The surgeon i see is the head of his colorectal team, but he's a teacher
