We are always looking for photos that make sense of these diseases and situations - recently found this found of Mandy, she is in high school, has an ostomy now due to UC, and in this photo you can see how brilliant her support system is - her friends tape up her ostomy to go water skiing and her friend tapes himself up too.  I can't stop smiling when I look at this level of support she has:

Megan, what a great photo of this young lady!  I went and looked at all of her "screwUC" photos after this one--I was so impressed with how open she is about everything, even though she is so young!

If I thought my friends would be as open and accepting as hers, I may have gotten my surgery sooner (I was to scared!).

Thanks for posting this! :)

Mandy used to post on the UC thread as soccermandy. She faced her issues head on and came back to let us know about her photos. She (like Mark & Megan and many, many others) is one of the people who helped make the decision for Bratcat (my daughter) to go through with surgery.

--Mom of bratcat (17 years old)--
Daughter bratcat was diagnosed with pancolitis October 2006
Current meds:
Asacol - 4 pills/3Xday, 15 mg prednisone, Remicade

11/14/06 - started prednisone; 1/28/07 - finished prednisone!
3/3/07 - began to taper off hydrocortisone sloowwly! Summer 2007 - slowly began tapering Rowasa. 9/07 -- flaring? Nightly Rowasa. 9/21/07 -- added hydrocortisone enemas. 9/30/07--added prednisone. 10/31--started 6-mp, stopped the enemas. Started lowering prednisone. 3/08-another flare!  7/3/08-Step 1 j-pouch surgery

It was soccermandy and 1 other girl, Ashley who prompted our idea to do a photo blog of the surgery. We were so desperate to see what it all looked like, scars and ileostomy. Soccermandy was really inspirational for us, so I can see why your daughter felt better headed into the surgery. I hope that Bratcat is healing well.
