I am due to have my illiostomy reversed in just over 1 weeks time (finally). I got it when my son was born in July last year- had a severe tear between my front and back passage.
I am very nervouse about this and want to hear from anyone who has had a reversal and can tell me what I could expect afterwards. Any advice will be greatly appreciated

mumof1--welcome to the forum, I hope you'll be able to get all of your questions answered. There are already many threads if you search "reversal" in the topics, you should get a good idea of the recovery process...remember, everyone is a little different but you'll know what to expect.

Well I have had the surgery and its been almost 3 weeks and am feeling almost normal! I am very surprised at how quickly things started to work properly after the reversal especially considering they took 10cm of my large intestines.

The first couple of days I felt almost constipated but then it all started working, was on the toilet every 5 min for a day lol. Things then started to settle down and was working normally after 1 week. My stomach was really tender for the first 2 weeks but now I dont really feel any pain.

So, for anyone who is about to have a reversal, its not always bad news. I was really scared after reading so many stories about people who had the runs for months on end, having so many problems with foods that cause issues ect but my fears were unfounded.

It is a great relef to be able to go to the toilet normally, to sleep normally, go out for the day without having to plan ahead.

Good luck to anyone about to go through it :)
