  Hi Maine,
Iam new to posting but have lurking since my ostomy on 2007.
I also had a colostomy due perforation of the sigmoid colon from diverticulitis in Jan of 2007.
I had reversal surgery in Oct of 2007 and it was a success. I have had no problems since my reversal except there are times I have to beat feet to the bathroom...but that is not always the norm. Anyway if there are any questions I can answer for you..just ask.
Good luck with your surgery  and I will say a prayer that this time you may be reconnected.

   Hi, Diane

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you...I was having trouble getting on the site.

My stay in the hospital for the reversal was only four days....they like you to pass gas before you are discharged. The most important thing to remember after surgery is to walk, walk, and walk some more. It helps wake up the bowel. And yes the reversal was so much easier than the first. I don't know about you but I had peritonitis because I waited 24 hours before going to the ER. Now, I had read some place that some people have trouble with diarrhea after reversal surgery...but I did not....but I stayed on a low residue diet for about six weeks. There is also something called "butt burn " that some peolpe complain of..if they have alot of runny stools...I bought boudreaux's butt paste ( you can get it at walmart in baby section ) to have on hand...read that on another site...it is mainly zinc oxide.

I can't think of anything else at the moment..but I know how you are feeling. I keep thinking I just want to get it over and done with and behind me....the reversal surgery that is. If you can think of any questions ...anything I might have missed let me know...and I will keep in tuoch.
