Hi Guys,
I know I post only periodically although I often come to the site and read posts.  Anyhow, I just came home from step 2 of 3 steps for j pouch.  This step has not been as easy as step 1 but I am recovering.  I had the surgery on Oct 20th and came home that thursday so lots to be grateful for.  My stoma is a nightmare because it is a loop and discharges from the bottom so any "suggestions" on how to manage it would be great.  There is a stoma nurse coming tomorrow to my house so I am hoping that she can help.

Chili123,

I am sorry you are having problems. I am an Eakin believer. And I only began using it a couple of years ago after having my ileostomy for a long time! I use only a strip in place of the stoma paste. You might try it. Several people have had good luck with it. Best of luck to you,
Peggy

Ugh, I hated my loop ileo. What a pain! Convex wafers, eakin seals...I used them all. For me, the combination of Convex wafers and paste worked the best. Eakins were too much for me. The good news about loop ileos are that they are usually temporary! YAY! Also, I felt like mine got a bit better the farther out from surgery I was. So, chin up, try lots of systems, and remember step 3 is coming. Good days are ahead.

If at first you do not succeed, then skydiving is surely not meant for you.

chili123--my doc put three stiches in to prevent "overflow" from going down the lower hole, which stopped my pooping the old fashioned way!!!  I think that was the thing I disliked the MOST when I had a loop ileo...and it is SO unpredictable:(  I do use the Eakin seals to, but unfortunately, for me, they didn't stop any "overflow"...but I think they keep my skin in great condition!

I hope you find relief soon!
