I can find information on what happens if yours isn't working but not if yours has gone for good.  So what I think I know about it now is that this is where everything stops and vitamins are taken out and it starts to form properly before carrying on to the exit.  I'm due a reversal in a couple of months so I'm thinking does this mean everything will just drop through in a watery mess forever as this valve is no longer there to sort this out will this mean I will always have the dreaded runs?

Does the valve re-form? because the surgeon says it should take 6 months to return to normal but I don't see how that would be possible.

I hope I'm making sense I don't think I've put across what I mean very well it's a bit late :-)

Miss UK-did you have a total colectomy? Temp Ileo?  Resection w/temp ileo?  If it has been removed your body has to adjust to it not being there...that is why your doc said it could take 6 months.  Just remember everyone is different so your body might respond quicker OR slower.  I had mine removed a long time ago in a resection and didn't have problems once my body adjusted.  Hope this helps!!

Thanks Ohio76 I had a perforated bowel onto my bladder so they did a resection and a temporary ileostomy 8 weeks ago.  So the body just adjusts, it's quite amazing what the body can do (not always for the worst).
