I used to take Primadophilus Reuteri religiously when I had my colon.

Is there any benefit (or harm) to continuing it with a temporary ileostomy and eventual j-pouch? Can it even absorb properly?

I took probiotics long before I had UC and now even post colon. It seems that they might help prevent pouchitis in the jpouch. Also, after some years with your jpouch the cells will change and look more colon-like. It certainly can't hurt to continue with them.

dx proctitis in 1987
dx UC in 1991, was stable until 1998

1998 started prednisone, asacol, pentasa, nortriptylene, ativan, 6MP, rowasa enemas and suppositories, hydrocortisone enemas, tried the SCD diet, being a vegetarian, omega 3s, flax, pranic healing, yoga, acupuncture, probiotics

2000 lost all my B-12 stores and became anemic

2001 opted for j-pouch surgery- now living life med-free
