I just needed to vent, because I've had a really bad head cold 3 times in the last 3 months! Each time it last about 2 weeks, and just when I'm starting to feel better, I get sick again for another 2 weeks. I'm really frustrated! sad

I've been drinking lots of water, resting, taking vitamins and Zicam (Zinc), but nothing seems to help me get over it. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!

Geez, it's really hitting you hard, isn't it?!?! I'm sorry! I've heard (from young men mind you) that the combo of beer and sex is great for ridding one of a cold. :) I hope you feel better soon!!!!!!

lol justjen, i heard liquor and sex!
Actually my grandma and her sister swear by rocking rye (whiskey) and it does help them, lol. one of her sisters also says you should dip your socks in vinegar and go to sleep that way and you will be healthy. Not sure, but she is 83 and never had any serious illnesses, might try it, lol.

Get some vicks vapor rub, it will clear you up fast!

Thanks for all of the tips. I don't know if my husband will find me sexy if I reek of beer, whiskey, vinegar, and Vick's Vapor Rub! tongue Good thing he's got this cold, too, because he can't smell anything either!

Cecilia--have you tried a Neti Pot?  It is great for clearing nasal passages smilewinkgrin    My hubby's been sick, too, for the last three weeks and he's been using one the last few days...I was tired of listening to him!!!

Lol to all of the above comments--other than I have heard the netti pot is great for colds, too.  Actually bought my oldest daughter one when she was pregnant (she kept getting colds and sinus problems), she loved it.

But, my real suggestion, aren't you in Florida?  Drink lots of orange juice and go out in the sun and burn it off--anytime I've gone on vacation with a cold starting, as soon as I hit the sun it seems to "burn itself up".  Maybe drink lots of liquor and sex the night before, then get up and soak up the sun with some OJ all day----good luck

Cecilia-

Sorry to hear you have not been feeling your best! Head congestion is the worst :( I find it especially bad when I try to sleep (I sleep on my side), and all the congestion moves to one side of my nose (gross, I know!).

That is so strange that you have had this problem 3 times recently...!

Anyway, being a teacher, I am always picking up a cold here an there during the school year, but a few months ago my GI suggested I take L-Lysine (it is just an amino acid that our bodies cannot synthesize) supplements, and I have noticed that I have not gotten any colds/infections since taking it!

You can get it at most drug stores. :)

Feel better!

-E

Try some steam. Fill up the sink basin with very hot water and put a towel over your head. Breathe in the steam as the water runs and until it gets cold. Nose breathing and mouth breathing if you can. Hope you feel better!

Good advice. I notice that I feel better after taking a hot shower.

oh they make these things that you can put in the shower with you, vicks makes them, and they look like the 2000 flushes blue things you put in the toilet but they are vicks and as you shower they evaporate up and into the shower and it helps SOOO much!
Ugh i can't remeber what they are called, shower soothers maybe, but they are with the vicks at the store.

Cece,
I can't believe that you have gotten ANOTHER cold! If you don't watch it, it will be weeks before you can visit that darling little grandbaby of yours. (frown)

My folks always drank a hot totti when they had colds, esp. head colds. My girlfriend had a horrible lingering cold (and she works at a health food store and takes lots of supplements and eats healthy, etc.), and she resorted to the hot totti AND felt much better. I can't guarantee anything but, I have tried it and so has DH.

Old fashioned hot totti: hot whiskey, lemon juice and honey. Drink it hot. Bundle up and go to bed and Sweat it out.

Revised hot totti: same as above by mix with hot tea (My Version!) Can't do straight whiskey anymore!!! YUK!
