Hi Tina,

Im sorry you feel so bad. I cant help you either as I havent had my rectum removed but my surgeon seems to think I will have to have it done eventually. So for me to hear what you are going through makes me wonder how it will be. Im sure someone else will be along soon to offer you some advice on this, just wanted to say hang in there and keep us posted. Perhaps give your surgeon a call too and see what he says about it, maybe it will ease up with a bit of time. I hope it does for you :-)

take care

I had mine sewn shut back in 1984 when I had my perm ileostomy done. I was pretty uncomfortable with mine too, but I was really malnourished and underweight, so I had no padding on my butt to sit on. Needless to say, I either laid down or stood up for a very long time. That was many years ago tho.

I'm sure others will be around here soon to advise and give you their take on it. Never hurts to check in with your surgeon/dr if you are feeling uncomfortable with it.

That was the least painful part of my recovery...Did you have other issues at the time of your surgery? I was sewn up, but I don't look any different than I did before, there just isn't a hole!!

Sorry you are not feeling well, it is still early post-op...are you taking your pain meds? Have you discussed what is going on with your doc?

Let me add one more thing -- After I gained my weight back and healed, you cannot tell that it has been sewn shut. Remember, you have a lot of surgical swelling in that area until it heals.
