I just thought I would post about
my tummy scar for anyone that is going to be going through reversal soon. We just moved to this city a few months before my reversal surgery was scheduled so the Surgeon that did my reversal is not the one that did my original ileostomy surgery in Sept/08. This surgeon is very young, and although I had heard good things about
him, I was still a little nervous to have him do the reversal. I found that he was quite rough. When I had my sigmoidoscopy I thought OUCH>> OMG what am I getting into here? Anyway...long story shortened...when I first saw my tummy after surgery I thought OKAY..what's this?? He had gone in through the stoma site instead of making another new incision so I was happy about
that as I had a peristomal hernia repaired at the same time. BUT the stoma site looked a total MESS! He had taken what looked like one long gathering stitch and pulled it up like a drawstring. It was really odd looking. I think if I were 20 years younger I would have cried!..(at this stage in the game though, and after all the abdominal surgeries I've had...moot point)LOL
ANYWAY...I am happy to report that there is only the tiniest little dot on my belly where the stoma used to be!!! I am so impressed! Not an ugly scar at all and it has flattened right out! Just to update..I am still feeling so well and am so happy to have this all behind me. The only thing now is this HORRIBLE cold/flu bug that likes me WAY too much!! I am coughing so hard all the time I'm afraid I may burst my hernia through again or pop another one!!
Diagnosed IBS 2000
Vaginal Prolapse Surgery 2001
3 Hernia Repairs, 2004
Repeat Vaginal Prolapse Surgery 2006 (the mesh from previous prolapse surgery had let go and fallen into my bowels)...
Removal of mesh from bowels (it was piercing holes all through my bowels and appendix and cecum, causing 2 fistulas and heavy bleeding vaginally and rectally)...mesh was removed, two pieces of large bowel removed and resectioned with a loop ileostomy. 2008
I have underlying connective tissue disorder (Ehlers Danloss Syndrome) which is the reason for the two failed surgeries)
