Met with the Anesthgiologist .... gave me the green light
Met with the surgical nurse .... gave me the green light
Met with the stoma nurse ... gave me the green light and marked me with an X !

I think it finally hit me, when the stoma nurse was shaving part of my belly and marking me where the temporary stoma is going to be ... my face went white (according to my wife). I am not one to get scared or to be afraid of anything but now it's starting to sink in ... how tough this whole process is really going to be.

I know it's for the better .... I'm snapping out of it now !!!
Hope everyone else is doing well and chelebel's surgery went well ...
:-)

X marks the spot !!

In case you don't post before the surgery- I will be thinking about you. I know that you are in good hands with Dr. Weiss and those wonderful stoma nurses.

Don't be afraid to ask for pain meds and keep pressing the pain pump.

Best wishes-----

As soon as you feel up to it, let us know how it went.

I actually was on my laptop the day after surgery. I was still on the pain pump so feeling pretty good. On the third day, I was feeling worse actually- Then I was on pain pills and nauseated.

Everyday- I feel a little better. I am eating more- gotta stop that. Today I went to Denny's and had a Grand Slam and didn't have to run to the bathroom. Amazing!!! It has been soooo long since I have been able to make it through a meal.

My stoma is giving me a bit of a problem. Because of the pred. use, I am not healing as quickly as I should around the stoma.
If you have been on pred for a while, don't worry if this happens to you. The inside stitches might dissolve before the wound heals. But so far I am taking care of it with the help of the stoma nurses ( Dr. Weiss's).

It is three weeks today since my surgery... Going for follow up April 20th and I am even thinking about going back to work before my second surgery which should be mid- June. Not looking forward to that- then I have a third surgery.... Oh well. One thing at a time.

Anyway- I hope you have help at home. You will need help in the middle of the night too. Eat small meals--- soup, toast, mashed potatoes- I was nauseated first week. But it does get better. I am still on pain meds- but taking less and less.

Sorry I wrote so much.... Again, I wish you the best....

Sounds like it's progress .. slow but definitely progress :-) Positive.

Dr. Weiss has good stoma nurses for sure, the one I met today was excellent and felt extremely comfortable with her. That I've heard is very important.

I plan to be back working on my laptop from home in bed within a week or two .. might be pushing it a little but I just need to be on a computer and talk a little bit of sense on my conference calls once in a while :-) Am I pushing it?

My mum is coming and I have my wife. I have a lot of help and support. I'm the type of person who likes to do everything on my own tho so it's going to be tough depending on others .. even though it's family ...

I am on prednisone still and tapering off so I do expect that to complicate things a bit ... I'm hoping to kick this in the butt ... :-)

keep in touch and I hope you continue your good progress ... let me know how your followup goes .. i hopefully will be out of the hospital by then and recovering at home!
