Peggy, I see for one that you went to cleveland clinic. What did u think of them and do you have any recommedations of any colorectal doctors in particular. Has anyone been to OSU colorectal surgeons?

I don't know anything about OSU - sorry. Maybe someone else would give you some feedback under a separate topic on that one.

As far as Cleve Clinic goes, they rate #1 in my book!! That is the only hospital that I have ever had GI surgery in and my surgeon was Victor Fazio. He is the head of the colorectal dept now (he wasn't head when I had my surgery tho). I just loved him. Esp. the Australian accent. I haven't had any contact with any others surgeons there... my last surgery was in 1984. I know Dr. Fazio was still there last year. Sorry I cannot provide any more information to help you out. I highly recommend CC.

I've had wonderful attention there...you really cannot go wrong with any of the surgeons...bedside manner would be the only real difference.  I would suggest that you check out their website and look at their profiles, find one that does the procedure you need and give a call.  You can talk to a few to see who you might like best.  I don't think Dr. Fazio is practicing at the moment, but that might have changed.

I never "picked" my surgeon (only had two different ones in 10 years and one moved up in his career) and was more than pleased with my outcome!!

I had my total colectomy and ileo done at CC in Feb.09. Matthew Kalady was my surgeon. After going thru 3 surgeries at my local hospitals, the care was A-1. I wouldn't go anywhere else now. It was a 4 hour drive, but well worth it. Good luck to you.

They're the #1 place. I go to CAMC in Charleston but only because my doctor there recommended me to Dr. Fazio who was supposed to be my surgeon, but he has cancer so he couldn't do my surgery sad But I have an AMAZING surgeon at CAMC and since Im 17 I get to stay on the ped floor when I get my surgeries..so its ALOT different for me bc theres a HUUUGE difference in the care and kindness between the ped floor and the adult floor...my grandma went there for her bypass surgery not too long ago. They dont really smile and arent nearly as friendly as the ped floor..so im lucky there lol But I was SO bummed when I found out he had cancer bc I think my doctor said he's the #1 surgeon for these kind of operations :-)

CCF is the place to be for this. i had uc in 92-93 and dr. fazio did mine back then and now as of 3-27-09 i was hit w/ crohns and dr.jon vogel did this one. hes awesome as well. according to my et nurses he made a beautiful stoma for which i have named him Junior the meatball. sems like CCF has a helluva colrectal dept. and howdy to you all newbies as i am one as of yesterday. this has been so helpful in a way we all blessed.

I had a total colectomy at Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida in August, 2007 with Dr. Wexner.  He is a colorectal surgeon there and was wonderful.  He has unbelievable credentials and is very caring.  I can't say enough about the doctors and nurses that took care of me during my stay.  I am very grateful to them all!
