you mentioned you use mini pouches...you may want to use the next step up and tuck the tail into your undies...they will give you a little more time before things explode! Personally, my pouch hangs down a little longer than I'd like but I've figured out how to tuck it up so I can enjoy a longer time between emptying.

p.s. drinking makes operating an ostomy A LOT harder!! I've got to be extra careful when I'm out!!!!!

It's true that it takes a little time to find the right system that works for you, so it's normal to have leaks in the beginning. We've all had embarrassing moments, so you're in good company here. blush

I'm really impressed that you're going out with friends only 5 weeks post op. That's great!

If you can, try to have a good sense of humor about it, and bring an emergency changing kit in a big purse when you go out. Remember to empty often and have a good time!

Are you still having surgery for a K pouch on May 27? If so, you're only going to have this ileostomy for 11 more days! smilewinkgrin

I would definitely switch to a larger size pouch and just fold it up into your undies. Believe me, I would never be out of the bathroom if I wore a Mini. Just won't work for me... no matter what time of day!

Sorry you are experiencing all these events, back to back to back. Switching to a larger pouch and keeping an eye on things might help.

ps. I don't burp = I've had bubble outs, instead of just the air! Once was enough for me.

I have benn trying to gain some sense of normalcy, still having alot of nausea.....so been going out with friends every now and agian, but then i sleep for nearly 24 hrs and have panic attacks.....not sure its worth it. I am still going my 27 for consult for surgery....not sure when they will open me up again, I am guesssing 4-8 months......to be safe so I at least have this bag for that long or maybe permanently. thinking of calling ostomy nurse to see if i can get longer back. i have some, but the flange? is too big for my wafer. I am a 7/8'' precut convex wafer. i had been doing really well, but i need not to trust my strawberry so much!!!! Thats what my friends have named it......they call it naughty strawberry so I am trying to find dome hunor in it, i have too!!!! I go back to work june 8......so this shoulbe interesting......thanks for all your help. do not know what i would do without you all, i can sleep through the whole night with my mini, but its anytime i drink anything, esp alcohol that it feills up so quickly. I think i will get some longer ones and just find a way to fold them.....thanks so much,

Lizzie

I don't know if this helps...as you know I'm right behind you. I'm 4 weeks out of surgery. I went out with friends a few nights ago. I emptied often but do you think it might matter what you drink??? I had a vodka and tonic...so I still had lots of water. Well that was my reasoning anyways. I didn't have any problems with my bag at all. I didn't drink much, but I even danced etc!!! It was the best night I have had in a LONG TIME! I hope things get better for you.

I had an interview 10 days after surgery, mr. stoma decided to let out the biggest noise ever! That was pretty embarrassing! Just thought I would try to make you feel better!

before you drink any alchohl (i hate that word, its so hard for me to spell!) take some immodium! I go out on friday nights and usually end up rather smashed, lol. But i always take 2 immodium about 6 before we go out and then 2 more about 10 or 11, that keeps me from having lots of output, it can be hard to operate a bag when you are drunk. there have been times when i have been like, What the heck is this thing? what do i do with it? I also take gas-x while at the same time.
However about 7 or 8 in the morning i get output and gas like crazy, so beware of that, lol.
I def think you should try switching to the bigger pouch and tucking it up that will help some.

Can I ask how often the bag is full and when you say "change it" is that emptying it or putting new one on?

with an ileo chaning it means taking everything off and putting a new one on, takes about 10 minutes every 4-5 days.
emptying an ileo takes about 2 minutes and is about 4-6 times a day, depending on what you eat.

A colostomy is different, i think alot of people put on new bags each time cause they only go like once a day, but i dont really know that much ab out them
