Is this possible with the convatec moldable ESTEEM synergy system?

I have the 2 piece now because I have an inny, but they ordered me a drainable... I CANNOT stand to drain it..and it SMELLS...Am I doing something wrong? Since it's a sigmoid colectomy, I don't go that much, maybe 1-2x a day? I'm thinking I'd be better off with the disposables..insurance covers them.

Any advice?

Kaycie,

If your insurance covers them, try a few (ask for samples). See how it works for you. Everyone's body/functions are different. But do let us know how it turns out for you.

Thanks Peggy. I emailed convatec and am waiting on samples. I called insurance to get a detailed list of ostomy care coverage, and they had no idea. I think they noticed my frustration on the other end, and put me on hold and called the only provider I can buy from! (my local ones are 1 hr+ away!) So, she said based on the codes, all she can tell me is it's 85% coverage after my deductible and my mouth sort of dropped. I asked.."That doesn't make a whole lot of sense because you guys wouldn't cover 300 bags a month, surely?" So they are going to have a senior executive call me back.

Now, granted, I'm used to paying around $2000/year for my own medical care out of pocket plus premiums..so my thought is if they don't cover it.. I might get a mix... order the max/month of what I can get.. and stock-pile. A little out of pocket won't kill me at this point..after all these years of forking over huge bucks anyway. Once I'm slimmed down (like next summer), I'm going to be interested in ordering some stoma caps for maybe swimming days.. I realize I'll have to be careful what I eat..but really, my output isn't horrible right now...basically 2-3x/day... but I have the edgepark catalog and it's great..that's how I found out about the moldable system. I really like the convex wafer. I've been able to change the bag a few times and not the wafer. It seems almost fool proof as far as leaks go! (knock on wood!)

Kaycie,
My insurance said the same thing. they cover 85% of what is medically necessary. I thought they would have a limit of what i could order like some people said medicare did but they said no they didn't have a limit. so when I called edgepark they would tell me if something was covered by my ins. The things that weren't covered they gave me like 30% off if I still wanted to order them. I love the sure seals even though they aren't covered by my ins. They make taking a shower so easy. I am going to definately use them when I go swimming.
