Hey all-
I have a bad rash that started in the area under the cloth like tape that attaches to the wafer. I am pretty sure the rash is not from a leak since I haven't had any leaks. I thought it would go away but it is getting worse. Red and well, rash- like- and it itches.

I have some powder that I sprinkle over the tape- Columbia Powder- the nurse gave me. It hasn't helped much. Any suggestions besides going to see the stoma nurse again.
Ironically, the stoma is fine and dandy and I am finally getting used to it. I am scheduled for my second surgery in which I will get a loop ileo and I am scared the rash will get worse.

Help!

My surgeon prescribed Nystatin powder for me when I had a rash, and it cleared it up. It goes right on the skin. I would call their office and tell them what's going on, so they can treat it. Hope you get relief soon!

You can also cut away the 'paper/band-aid' part of the wafer so the area doesn't have anything on it...Just to be sure, though, you might want to get it checked out.

Let us know how it goes!

Jackie,

I had this problem last week but it was because I shaved right before I put my wafer on and I got folliculitis with these small red bumps. Helen (Mary Lous other half!) the stoma nurse promptly took my wafer off and proceeded to "fix" the problem.

All that was done was she cleaned the area thoroughly with soap and water and replaced the wafer and bag.

I would call them up and go over there, you might have something different but I've learned that there is nothing that those two haven't seen before or can't fix!!!

Good luck and keep us posted.
