I went into Surgery June 9th....went well about 3 days after I started filling up with fluid in which they kept telling me it was completely normal. everyday I told them I was getting worse and they said no I was doing so much better. Well on monday they told me the fluid was an underling problem and to see my family doctor. I told them as they wheeled me to my car that I couldnt breathe and they told me that it would get better as I started walking more. I drove straight to my physician and she was like they really released u like this. I had 21 pounds of fluid on me. She gave me a prescription of lasix and potassium and told me if I got any worse to go back to the hospital. Now I know the hospital had given me some lasix's in the hospital....so anyways I go home and chris went to go get my meds and while he was gone I went to the bathroom and just about collapsed...i remember my daughter calling and I said honey mommy needs help and she called 911 when they got here my o2 stats were 79%....they took me to a different mount carmel hosp. I had fluid on both lungs......ugh if the first hospital would have just listened to me... now four days later i am released and feeling better but Im certainly going to voice my opinion on this one.

ewww.
That's scary. You poor thing. How old is your daughter? How scary for you to have to go through that.
That makes me soo mad 4 you. Did a Dr. ever see you at the hosp. and tell you it was normal?

Let 'em have it!
Glad you're doing ok. No thanks to them.

It is good to hear the happy ending. I hope you continue to recover without any more problems.

I think that is the kind of story Dr.s don't want you to read, but personally it pays to be educated on the possibilities and what to look out for. Thanks for sharing.

Im feeling better....kinda still weak. I have this sharp pain above my belly button after i eat but it does fade away....am I pushing foods too fast? Im eating because I feel so weak that the eating seems to help that. I also find i am still taking 2 percocet's when before I was off after a couple of weeks. i guess it is just taking more time then usual because of the fluid.

Glad you're feeling better. It's only been 11 days since your surgery, so you're going to still feel some pain and should take your pain meds as needed. Eating food shouldn't be a problem, so enjoy that, and get plenty of rest.

If the pain gets worse, then call your surgeon and let them know.

Keep nourishing your body and take the percocet if you need them. I believe those are in tablet form, not capsule, right? You know, you can break/cut them in 1/2 and take the same doseage that way.. ie- if 1 every 4 hrs; then 1/2 every 2 hrs. Kinda keeps the pain at bay w/o knocking you out. And a few tylenol would probably be ok as well. Just a thought.

Are you doing any breathing exercises? My cousin has Congestive Heart Failure and when her lasix needs bumped up, she goes thru those same symptoms you did - it's awful to not get enough oxygen no matter how hard you try.

Take care and keep us updated, esp with the 1st hospital/dr response....if you decided to pursue that. But really, at this point, getting back on your feet is the most important thing to concentrate on. Yeh, I'd be livid at the hospital but what would they do NOW to help you? Right?
