I am really hating this colostomy verses my ileostomy. The ileostomy once I found the right equipment was easy. Now the colostomy seems to be difficult. The poo is sooo thick. Sometimes it hurts to even come out. I tried to empty it and it makes such a mess. I cant change my appliance everyday but the poo just smooshes everywhere. Its awful. Am I missing something?

Can you go to closed end pouches so you can just throw them away? How often do you have to empty?

Most of the day once a day but lately it is so thick that I have to take it off frequently because the poo gets stuck right at the wafer. I will start back on my miralx tonight. Today when I took it off i had little round balls that was really hard as well. I was concerned that with the colostomy my slow motility would cause a problem but he said he would cut it up far enough for the stool not to harden. I was told he took 2 ft out. I guess I will have too look into bags they will let me change everyday.

I had colostomy surgery in '89, and had to have it switched to an ileostomy in '04. Like yourself, I had a lot of problems with the colostomy at first. I've always used a 2 piece system for both the colostomy and ileostomy.   But I can tell you from experience, and with complete honesty, it will work out fine once you get the hang of it.
