Im having some pain around my stoma which feels like someone is cutting me when i press around it, my stiches are coming loose from my stoma and coming out from inside and where they come out my skin is really red and inflammed. So i was wondering if anyone else has experienced this type of thing, im still waiting for my doctors to get back to me on what it might be.

How long have you had the stoma?

I had pain around the stoma after my first surgery- end ileo. I was worried about it. The nurses and some people here considered it being the food going through the stoma. Is your stoma new? If it is, this might be the problem and it will get better since the area needs time to heal.

Nevertheless. call the doctor or stoma nurse and explain the situation.

I've had it a little over 3 weeks, and i doubt its something i ate because everything i had to eat today i have eaten before today and had no pain before.

being that its so new the pain is just from the muscles healing, and its not actually from your stoma itself, just those muscles. When i first got mine if my bag got full and started pulling down it would make me hurt in that area. I kept my bag pretty empty and tucked it up so it wouldnt weigh down like that.
Now im not sure what you meant about it coming out from inside. Do you mean the stiches are showing? or that the stoma seems to be coming out?
Your stoma may grow in length or width or it may shrink. And if it grows in length you might see the stiches. BUT if it looks like the stiches are torn or something then you should call the surgeon.
I didnt explain that well, sorry!
hope you feel better

no you explained it great! yeah the stiches are showing and my stoma is still shrinking so that could be why the stiches are showing. the pain doesnt really feel like muscle pain because the pain is more of a sharp pain like someone is cutting the skin around my stoma.

well i sometimes get a random sharp pain around mine too. And when i do a little while later i get like a huge amount of output, lol. So it may be the food trying to come out.
But for like the first 6-9 months i would have random pains that made no sense.

Even after 25 years, once in a while I get some sharp random pain and I immediately think, "Oh heck, what did I eat that could cause that?" Sometimes it is the same thing I had before... doesn't matter though. It's just how the body digests it that matters. Push liquids and it may resolve itself. Also be sure that your appliance has been changed recently. The adhesive side of the wafer can wear away and sometimes the hard plastic layer can be really uncomfortable around the very edge of the stoma. Eakin Seals helps to reduce this wear tremendously.

Best of Luck to you and if you have more questions, just ask away. We will try to help you through all this.
