Oh my gosh.. I just NEVER want this test again! I just had one 6 months ago, and today my 2nd one.. which was worse then the first one. First one was somewhat different.. now I am fretting weather this new place did it right or it the results will be accurate!

I'll describe both, and for you who have had this test done, tell me if you think my test today sounds "normal".

First - test one was better - it was an old man, and I was shielded with a screen. Today - I had 2 young male tech's and and to sit in the open with them inches away while I expelled the white paste. Totally demoralizing. blush

Test #1 - they instructed me to 1) squeeze 2) bear down hard - really pushing.

Test #2 - they did NOT have me squeeze at all, and just had me "push & relax" (never instructed me to bear down hard). So.. I am worried that if I didn't bear down hard - that the test may not be correct. I just can't do this again.. I just can't! shakehead

What do you all think... was yours similar to my first or second test?

don't feel so bad, tinkerbell, just think of it, you won't see these guys again. anyway, that's their job and they are only looking for one thing - to diagnose if there're probs or not and their goal is to help you, not othewise, right?

well, i also had this test twice. they were done in different places, but both places did it the same way. about half hr-hr prior i had to drink that nasty barium shake and then they inserted more barium into my rectum, then i was told to sit on a toilet like thing and to push as like having a bm and it's being x rayed, so they can see all the angles and if there're any abnomalities. that's it. is it similar to your last test?

if you're still not sure about the test, maybe you should talk to your gi about it. maybe he can do you the u.s of the pelivc instead, which is much easier, since you don't have to deal with no barium with that one and it can help give the same answers as the defogram. try and see what he thinks of it.

i hope it works out for you :o) keep me posted on the results.

Hodaya, thank goodness I don't have to see them again.. that's what I kept telling myself! I did not have to drink barium either time.. just had to cleanse the bowel, and had the barium paste inserted. I have had the pelvic MRI a few months back - but that was with contrast as well.. thy had to fill my rectum up with the paste on that too!

When you had your test - did they tell you to bear down as hard as you could? They did that with my first test - not the second. I saw the video of test one.. bearing down really did show the rectocele the most. I just kept waiting for them to tell me - but they didn't.

yes they told me to bear down as hard as i could in both tests. gosh i don't know why they didn't tell you that this time. you should talk about it with you dr, make sure it was done right. i'd really hate for you to go through this again. i heard the MRI is quite new, i never had it. i do find it strange they didn't tell you to bear down, they have to see what happens when you bear down as hard as you can, only that way the probs can be revieled. ask your dr about an ultra sound of the plevic floor.

O my gosh.. I sure hope this doesn't have to be redone! I don't know why they didn't have me bear down.. they just said "push" to expel the stuff. I pushed just enough to get stuff out... but did not bear down and strain! It was so uncomfortable with them standing within inches of me... I guess there is not much I can do or worry about until Friday - when I pick up the report and CD.

actually, if they told you to push to get the stuff out, then i think that's what it's all about, and if you managed to push it out, then your test is good. don't worry too much, trust the drs for knowing what there're doing, after all it's a routine procedure for them and now that you said you pushed and expelled the stuff, then i think it's o.k and you won't have to do it again.
