SO supposedly, I've had this before and I was crippled over in pain.

What I'm wondering is yesterday I felt some discomfort, not really pain, and so I drank 2 things of miralax (colon surgeon said I could drink miralax if I felt like my stool was too hard - because I totally dislike the taste, I usually double the dose up, which he said was fine - no more than 2 doses/day tho).  So, that said, It was all nice and soft yesterday and changed my bag twice, nothing major, pretty normal.  This morning, I have two small nuggets of stool in my bag (I can feel them).  Could I have had a partial blockage and the miralax is starting to unblock it?

I fear a blockage, so I'm doing all I can to eat plenty of fiber and drink 6-8 glasses of water.  Any other suggestions?  I'm also on a new diabetic diet (I'm NOT diabetic, just have diabetic tendencies and with the steriod damage and all..it's for the best), It's 1500 calories and I get 16-20 grams of fiber, plenty of good fats...etc.. plus fruits and veggies...

Is the change in diet causing that, or could it just be I had a partial blockage and it's starting to move?  Do ALL blockages hurt, even the little ones?

Btw, LOVING the new Eakin Seal!!!!!!!  Haven't had a leak since!

All of the blockages I've ever had have hurt, so I don't know if everyone's different when it comes to that. Either way, I'm really glad you're feeling better and that the Eakin Seals have stopped the leaks. Woo hoo!! turn

Thanks Cecilia!

Yes, Eakin seals ROCK! It acts like a turtleneck around the stoma...no more skin irritation! I use paste and a small bit of the seal and wow! My stoma is only about 1" so it's not large for a colostomy. Before, the paste was just slipping through the seems and everytime I chagned a back and wiped the pouch area...some of the paste would go with the wiping off.

I know I had a blockage the last time (about 5 weeks ago?) because I was doubled over in pain. It disolved on it's own with the help of lots of water!!

I feel the best I've felt in 3 1/2 years tho! I mean, I have my entire life back...it's very surreal, scary, and exciting! Best decision I ever made was to have surgery! Thanks for all the awesome support around here.

Still curious to hear what others say.. I guess it's normal to be a little constipated and have a few pellets here and there?

I have not had a blockage yet.  I have been actually avoiding alot of fibre, now I am wondering it that is a mistake.  How much fruits and veggies do you eat, are they cooked, or raw?

Sue - my surgeon advised me to eat lots of fiber and drink water. Now, don't go and get 30g of fiber on an 1800cal diet, but I'm on a 1500cal diet with about 16-20g. Also SLOWLY build up... like 5 one day, 7 the next, 10 the next, give yourself a good 1-2 weeks to get to your ideal level. Then, drink plenty of water 6-8oz.

The reason he suggested fiber and water is because fiber actually helps to avoid blockages, but only if you get enough fluids as well. Definitely speak to your surgeon before doing so, especially since you have an ileo and I have a colostomy. I know you are more apt for blockages than I, but anyone with ostomies are more apt than others as well.

I eat all kinds of fruits and veggies...mostly cooked or canned, but some raw (when I'm feeling daredevilish! LOL!) Just make sure you chew chew chew! Especially with the ileo. Again, talk to your doctor..because an ileo is a bit of a different ball game...though I will say my surgeon would of asked me to put fiber and water in my diet regardless if I had an ileo or colostomy (was supposed to get an ileo, surprised when I came out with a colostomy! My intestines were better looking than usual!
