I saw my Dr. this week about getting off my warfarin (blood thinner). I was only supposed to be on it for 6 months post blood clot. We want to start TTC by Sept., so I have to be off that med b4 we can do that. She wanted to order another CT scan to make sure the clot is gone b4 okaying getting off the meds. (even though the hematologist said it would be fine).
The CT scan was scheduled for next week, but I started having some abdominal pain. It's been coming in waves and hurts through my chest, back and entire abdomen. Then it's followed by extreme nausea, but no vomiting. Then goes away, and I'm perfectly fine, until it comes back again. I was worried, b/c of my history, that a blood clot had come back. And my husband was doubly freaking out. So he dragged me to the hospital last night.
Of course they wanted to do a CT scan (which was ok with me, b/c their barium contrast tastes like koolaid and the diagnostic imaging place that I would go to next week barium contrast tastes like cherry chalk-bleck).
But they ended up NOT making me drink the barium and just do iodine contrast (Dr. said the barium would cause streaking).
It was kind of scary b/c the radiology tech warned me that they were going to 'push' the iodine fast into my vein and it would burn and the warm feeling would be stronger than i'm used to (compared to my last FOUR CT scans i've had this year). So i was scared about that. But it ended up only tingling down my arm-not as bad as the tech warned.
BUT the news was GOOD!! the clot is gone. HURRAY! So i will follow up with my Dr. next week, and get off the meds. Then (if things go according to the plan) we will be TTC next month. One thing I am really worried about pregnancy, is that I will get an obstruction during pregnancy. It just makes me nervous. It seems that when my belly gets big and distended from a growing uterus, that it would kink my intestine. I hope that doesn't happen!!!
I still don't know what the pain is from. It gets intense at times. The ER dr. thought I might need a scope if it doesn't improve. He thought maybe it could be acid reflux? but it didn't fit exactly. All my labs were good.
