Like my nurses have said, my stomabis shrinking. It was 1 1/2 inches by 1 1/4 in inches. Oval shaped. Since my last back change, it shrunk to a 1 inch circle. The thing is though, the cut in my skin is still huge. It's probably 2 inches by 1 3/4 inches. It's seals because it's stiched to the intestine. Does that sound right. Also there was some white funk in between the stoma and he skin. It looked like pus, but there wasn't a lot of or and it didn't hurt at all so I assume all is well.

Any thoughts?

it will do some weird stuff at first.
Im not sure about the hole thing you are describing. But the white stuff may be paste or it could also be mucousy poop, sometimes mine does that. I dont know what it is, just white junk on the stoma, it doesnt seem to hurt anything.

I get that but yeah like summerstorm said it hasn't been an issue. My stoma has shrunk lots too. I am kinda hoping it doesn't get so small there are problems. Does that happen?

Trigirl-
Mine has shrunk so much it has caused issues, but it is also retracted. It started out at 1 1/2 and now in at times 7/8'' but when it shrinks and retracts into my body it is nearly 3/4''. I have had a lot if issues with skin breakdown and leaking and even the convex wafer do not help me. If your is not retractd like mine abnd just small you should be ok.....

Mine did not start retracting until 2 mo post-op.....if i have to keep it i will  have to have a revision.

Hope your well.

as long as when you clean your stoma area you don't have any sores and the 'pus' cleans up you'll be ok...like the ladies have said, it is probably mucous or left over paste/adhesive.

I'm not sure what you described, could it be the area the stoma comes through to your stomach? Have you tried the moldable wafers? They are great when your stoma changes so often:)

Trigirl, don't worry, like Lizzie said, as long a you don't retract you shouldn't have a problem. Mine settled at 16mm which is pretty small and I use convexity only because my stomach is full of craters from so many surgeries...

My stoma has been getting smaller as well mine is now 20mm it started out at 30mm after the surgery which was done only last march. All the bags I have however are 25mm bags cause thats what it was for a little while so i use lots of paste around the stoma to ensure no leakage. take care

Try using Hollister conform 2 products. I have the same problem with stomas shrinking and conform 2 is a 2 piece system that stops this. The flange sticks to your skin and the pouch clips on. The flange has a sort of dint to go around the stoma and pushes the flesh in so the stoma pops out. I find these work great. The order number for the flanges is 35600 and for the ostomy pouches is 25750. All the best!
