Hi all!  As some of you know I am in grad school and working on a MEd in Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy.  For one of my classes this semester I need to write paper about the cultural differences of myself and, well, someone from another culture.  :-)    I really could not think of a better place than to possibly chat with someone from another country (I live in the US) than right here on HW!

The questions I would ask are in regards to how you and yours attend to and respect:
time - space - communication - social organization - cothing customs - food customs - family structure

I really just need to focus on one of the above areas, so I would like to find the area that is the most opposite to my cultural customs.  :-)

If anyone is interested in being part of my studies I would greatly appreciate it!  You can ask questions via here on HW or email me at my school account robin.rasse@gc.stephens.edu

Thanks guys!!!!

I'm Aussie so would be willing to help, however, we're very similar to the US anyway (we just don't tend to speak with an accent here whereas those from the US and UK do : ) so it might not be what you're looking for.

I'm sure we can find something that differs between our cultures...however, it would also be very interesting to discuss the similarities!  I will develop some questions and get with you soon!

If anyone else would like to become involved I think it would be just amazing to compare additional cultures.

Thank you SO MUCH!!!!!!!!

Space

o   What are some of your normal actions/behaviors and what is socially acceptable?  What behaviors/actions are not acceptable?

o   Do you feel you have specific forms of body language?

-          How is personal space respected?

o   How close do you stand to one another?

o   Who is a peer?

§  Do you hug, shake hands, kiss, etc.?

o   Can you tell me about gestures, smiling, eye contact, emotional expression?

o   Male and female roles.

o   Parental and child/sibling roles.

o   Are there specific responsibilities or responsibilities of children?

o   What happens when you turn 18?

o   What are legal or ethical/societal ages that seem to be milestones?

-          What classifies ‘family’?
