Hi everyone:

My husband has had his Ileostomy since last Nov. Last night around 9pm he emptied but then had very little to empty through the night and today. He eats carefully and chews well and drinks lots of fluid, this is the first time there has been a change to less flow. Anyone have any experience to share. He has no pain, swelling etc. He emptied a fairly normal amount just a couple of hours ago but until then it was strange. Should he just have fluids now or regular food?

thank you

As long as he's not in pain and is getting output, he should be fine. Just make sure he's drinking plenty of fluids to keep things flowing. Now, if he stops getting output, has abdominal pain, and starts to vomit, he could have a blockage and should go to the ER right away.
