Hi everyone, I've had my ileostomy for about 2 months now and I'm starting to notice some darker red spots that kind of look like ulcers on my stoma. I'm worried that they might be the appearance of crohn's on that part of my digestive system. After my surgery my surgeon said that he thinks I might actually have UC instead of crohn's based on what he saw during the removal of my colon. I'm led to believe that having UC would be the better of the two since it would then be possible for me to have a J-pouch and live medication-free for the rest of my life.

So my question is, does anyone else get these red spots? I know the stoma can be easily damaged by getting bumped, but the spots seem to always be there in the same place every time I look.

Any problems passing anything?

My stoma went really dark red, then it got harder to have output (ie fiber hurt).  My doc did an ileoscope, and after that I haven't had any probs.  He thought that there was just some kink in the plumbing that needed to be unkinked.

I also notice slightly darker areas if I get a bunch of powder on the stoma.  Then it's darker where the powder landed, at the next bag change.  Freaked me out at first, but have gotten used to it-I think it's just the powder sucking up the moisture..probably not a good thing, but not really bad either i don't think
