Sure missed this place when the site went down. I had withdrawl. It seems like there aren't many posting these days. I thought since people can't get out (if you live in cold like me) they would check this more.

Well, I am pretty excited. Yesterday one of my friend's sons who is a teenager phoned me up and ask if I wanted to go swimming with him at 7:00 am this morning. The time didn't thrill me, but I have said I'm going to go all week and then the days go by and I have put it off yet again. I said sure. I got all my stuff packed in a little bag, set my alarm and went to bed. The bag I had put on Mon. is a new type for me. One piece coloplast is the make. So about 2:00 am Wed morning I wake up and think my bag is leaking. Not much just a tiny bit. I grab a tissue to put around bottom of flange and get up to go to the bathroom. I have no idea why I wasn't covered in Poo!!=s The whole bottom of the flange was open but it was so thick it didn't get out too much. I can hardly believe the luck, no, blessing of it all. Glad I didn't drink my usual couple of glasses of herb tea before I went to bed.

I was so nervous. I was afraid it would hurt to put my arms up to pull the water because my back has been so sore. I was afraid to see old clients and friends. I was afraid the dang bag would leak or fall off or something would happen.

I did it!! I swam 1 mile. Which is short for me but fine for now. I'm just so happy to be back in the water. I didn't even feel my arthritis pains!! Long warm shower after. WHY did I put this off? Fear can really keep us from our goals and happiness.

I do not know what I'm doing wrong. The ET nurse put an eakin seal on last week with a two piece and it stayed dry and great for 6 days. I put one on the same way (I thought) and it leaked within days. I keep trying different things. I phoned a company direct to try some of their stuff and they were extremely nice about it. I am trying the two piece coloplast I put on in the middle of the night and it stayed on for the swim and still seems good. Do some people just have to change their flange more often? Mine seem to last 3-5 instead of the 5-7 I heard I was supposed to do. It costs too much to change so often!! I"ve got to fix this.

The bag did bulge by the end of 45 minutes in the pool swimming. I will try to find a print suit that could hide shape better. Gathers or something in the front. Anybody suggest a company to look at? Know where you can get good quality suit material to make my own. Usually fabric store stuff isn't half as good a quality as the well made suits.

Found another stitch sticking out of my skin. Will have the ET nurse get it when I go back and ask for more help. This is ridiculous. I hear how you guys hardly notice your bag and I feel like I'm carrying around a heavy weight on my front :( Clothes hurt and rub. I feel uncomfortable unless I wear the "test cap" which is annoying sometimes. Sorry about all the whining today. Tired obviously. Have to work all afternoon so better go sleep for awhile. Hope I didn't ramble too much.

Hope everyone is doing well and happy. Take care.

DO you swim a sot in Isreal? Outside or inside? Are you healing well from you surgery? I know you guys who all had the same operation have a thread going. Thanks for the encouragement.

yup we swim a lot here outside and inside, esp since it's SOOO hot here and the summer lasts loooooong. i personally havn't gone swiming in yrs, but then again there are lots of things i havn't done in yrs since i've been so sick.

i'm doing great as far as healing is concerned and i'm getting back to work on sunday.. YAY! my prob is that im still having issues with constipation. i've been on a soft-liquid diet since sunday and it seems to help a lot. i just have to REALLY watch my diet. i'm gonna try to add foods slowly one at a time, small portions and see if it works for me.

is your bag a permanent ileostomy?

Yup. Still getting used to the idea, besides all this bag crap. While I was writing this the bag I thought was so wonderful started to leak. Man.....

Hurrayaayayayya!!!!!
I'm so glad you went swimming! A mile! whew. take it easy girl (maybe that was taking it easy, lol)
It feels freeing doesn't it.
One of my bathing suits is ruched in the front. So, it hides better. It's just a fashion suit, not a sports suit. I think there are lots out there now that have ruching.

You get use to the feeling of the bag. Trust me, you do. At first, especially when you are still sore, it feels like a brick hanging off you. But, then it disappears.

I never get the flange to last 7 days. Mine's more like 5 days.

(temporary ileostomy....maybe)

Yesss,,,that's it a brick!! That's it exactly!!

I'll look for ruching and pattern print to the material.

Thanks

Trigirl -

I sweat everyday so much during my workouts that I had to change my bag every other day. I tried every brand of product I could get my hands on...they all stated to come unstuck after 2-3 days.
