I want to introduce myself, looks like I'll be here for awhile. Background info... had a Colonoscopy done on 9/21 and they found a 4cm mass in the ascending colon, took some biopsys. Before I left he refered me to a surgeon. Long story short saw surgeon yesterday and was told the bio showed some high grade dysplasia that could turn into cancer down the road and told me I needed have a rt Hemicolectomy done, he's doing it as a Hand-Assisted Laparoscopic. Am having it done 11/3, any advise on how to prepare for this and what to expect afterward as far as recover time, diet, bm's. One of my main concern is that I'm type 2 diabetic (pretty well controlled with metformin) and only weight 115 5'7 and can't afford to loose any weight.

Hi, I had a right hemicolectomy about 16 years ago but had open surgery the recovery wasn't to bad and should be a lot better seeing that you are having it done lapo and things have come along way since i had it done.i had to have this done due to crohn's disease the only thing is that i have D all the time ever since that op but am able to control it by taking lomotil so it was a small price to pay!when you have had your op try to keep on WALKING WALKING WALKING this will help with the recovery process. wishing you well with the op you will be fine Bev x  smilewinkgrin   smilewinkgrin smilewinkgrin

My twin sister just had the open surgery due to all ready having a pain pump for back problems and TG I won't have to go thru what she did. So can't really compare things with her. I do walk a lot now and am very active. And my intentions are be up and going if they let me by that afternoon and hope I can be out of the hosp by at least day 3 (hate hospitals and want to be home)

I guess that's good as long as you can rest and recover at home. Even help would be good.

waiting for the surgery was worse than the surgery and recovery itself.  I had a total and my rectum removed.  It was the rectum healing that took a long time for me.  Really just closed recently six months out from surgery  -  but it sounds like that your not having that done.  It took me about 3 months to feel back to complete "normal" or the new normal for the ostomy surgery.  Hope yours goes faster.

love to all here
