14 months after colostomy reversal.... HELP!!!!

14 months after my colostomy reversal I am still constipated all the time (I had the bag for 4 years)
HELP!!!!!

What was the reason you had a colostomy in the first place?

Do you have rectal or pelvic floor disorders that are obstructing the poop from coming out?

Or does your colon have a trasit problem after not being used for so long?

What has your surgeon told you to take?

Have you tried any laxatives? I have colonic inertia and I take miralax and just recently added senokot. Miralax works wonderfully by forcing water into the colon, therefor producing a softer bm. Can you tolerate fiber? I can not, but fiber added very slowly can definately help with constipation.  Just be sure to never start any fiber while you are constipated because fiber will only make you worse. Start the fiber after you get things moving with miralax or whatever laxative you prefer. Esor is right though, what did you have the colostomy for?

arrrggghh.....my biggest fear. I am three weeks post op ileo reversal, but laxatives are working for me right now and I do not have to take then all the time. when did your contipation start and Rosemary's questions are good so we can better understand. Thinking of you.

I had a bag for 2 years and just had a reversal. I have not been able to use the bathroom without laxatives for over 12 years. Now all I need is a 1/2 cup prune juice after each meal (or dried prunes). Have you tried prunes or juice?

Rosemary, I got the colostomy bag because i had a cyst in the bottom of the colon top of the rectal area, the cyst got infected after a biopsy. when it was removed i developed a recto-vaginal fistula I had couple surgeries to repair it. I also have parastomal hernia and it has been repaired 3 times (no mesh)..i
I am 29 years old 3 kids 2 C- sections while i had the bag...
my doctor wants to do an MRI of the pelvis in 4 months
I though about maybe asking him about pelvic floor disorder but I don't know much about the symptoms
and my husband thinks it may be a transit problem.... I am just afraid of anymore surgeries, 17 in 5 years is all i can handle right now....lol...
