HELP!   I HAVE A FRIEND THAT HAD A COLOSTOMY REVERSAL 5-6 WKS AGO AND IS HAVING PROBLEMS NOT BEING ABLE TO HAVE A BM COMPLETELY EACH TIME HE GOES.  HE NEVER FEELS FINISHED AND SPENDS MUCH TIME IN THE BR.  DOES HE NEED MORE FIBER? HE IS NOT HAVING THE DIARRHEA MOST OF YOU ARE TALKING about,  BUT DOES GO VERY FREQUENTLY. I AM AN RN BUT KNOW NOTHING about WHAT KIND OF DIET HE NEEDS FOR HIS SITUATION.  THANKS, A FRIEND

Well I have I reversable colostomy bag but I eat anything I want cause I still have the bag. But I take senna's, stool softers and I also drink Mari Lx to keep my stools soft but I'm not sure about it comming out after I get it reversed. I hope it's going to be better. The reason I have a colostomy bag is cause I had anal cancer that was at stage II when it was found. I did chemotherapy and radation the radation burned me so bad that my bottom would not heal it was getting earatated everytime I went to the restroom. So they did a colostomy bag to let my bottom a rest they just clamped my colon off. I have to have the bag for about 6 months to a year and have to be PET/CT every 3 months to make sure that my cancer is still in remission it has been in remission since April of 2009 and still in remission to this day. But now I'm having some problems with my anal it's burning, itching and it hurts so I'm going to have my surgon look at it when he gets back from vacation. This has really got me depressed and real bad anxity prolems I guess that is what cancer does to people.

Has he spoken to his doctor? Our bodies have to 're-learn' how to use itself and it may just be taking him a little longer. It might also help to know why he had the colostomy in the first place...

It is very nice of you to help find an answer for him!!
