I have a friend who has had IBS for 20 years. She knows what she can and can't eat and all the things to keep her healthiest. She still gets the occasional problem, but lately she has developed a new illness.

Recently she has had terrible problems with gas. She can't leave the house for fear she will totally erupt in public. She lives in a small town in Timmins, Ont. Canada and has seen the specialist there for many years but can't figure this one out.

I think she needs to go to a bigger city where she might find someone who has dealt with this problem.

I was wondering if anyone here has had this to the extreme and what was done for it. She is miserable and losing weight fast for not eating much and mentally depressed about it.

Any ideas what it is or how it is handled?
Those things we keep trying to do get easier not because the feat gets easier but our ability to "do" gets better.

Can she make it to Ottawa? As the capital of our wonderful nation, Ottawa has many of our top Dr.s. It would be about a 5-6 hour drive. Might be worth looking into.

Hey, your friend is part of the IBS hell and gas is a huge part of it.  I like her lost alot of weight just because it was easier to starve than to have all the pain, swelling and on and on with IBS.  Has she ever had a sitz marker test done to see if her colon is working properly?  I did and they removed my whole colon last month and food, OMG good to eat food again.

They say anything with symethacone or how ever it is spelled is supposta help, but not for me.  Gas x, did not work for me.  Reglan that helps move food through your stomach faster did not work for me...so I guess she can try these.  I spent so much money on over the counter meds and prescription meds that did not work.

So I wish her the very best of luck..
