hello. I am new to this site. I have been reading these post for the last several days. I have to say that I am so happy to find out that I am not alone . I have been dealing with severe constipation for over 10 years since I had my gallbladder removed. i started seeing several doctors and always was told nothing wrong keep eating more fiber, more water still nothing helped. istarted to see a GI doctor in 2000 had endoscopy and colonoscopy both were normal. Then I had a upper GI which showed gastric imobility possible to a gastric nerve cut during my gallbladder surgery still the doctor said that I was fine and did not want to further investigate. I take so many laxitives daily and I was so scared that I finally told myself I will keep looking for a doctor who will take my issues seriousely. I went to te Broland Groover Clinic heere in florida on 3-10-10. I think that I have finally found a doctor. He has ordered me to have aMRCP test on 3023-10 to check out my bile duct also I am scheduled for a stitz marker test on 3-29-10. He is pretty sure that I have CI. I am hoping to be able to talk with someone who has been through surgery and recovery.  I am hoping to reach leslie king if possible . I have been reading her post and she seems very knowledgable. I welcome all thoughts. Thank you so much for this site. I am not alone anymore.

Sorry Leslie, it's best not to put your email addy in an open forum like this. You may put it in your profile, however and direct people there. Spammers can harvest your email addy from open forums, but not from your profile... Shaz

PS It's probably a good idea to remove your surname from your signature too!

leslie, thankyou for responding. As I said I'm new to this. I'm so glad that this site is available. I have felt for a long time that i was going crazy because every doctor i saw told me that nothing was wrong even though i had severe constipation and epigastric pain and bloating for over 10 years. It really amazes me because I'm a nurse and I always take my patients concern and issues serious but for a doctor to tell me that I was crazy and nothing was wrongreally makes me mad. . If I do indeed have CI , what type of surgeries are usually done? How long is a surgery recovery and hospital stay? At this point I really don't care as long as I finally get answers to this craziness I have been through the last 10 years. 2 years ago I had  test to determine how long it took for me to digest a egg white a normal person takes about 60 minutes I took 218 minutes. You would think that my doctor would have been concerned but he wasn't all he wanted to was give me reglan and multiple laxitives, so to end that chapter I just stoped seeing doctors. But now I think I have the right doctor.Anyway how have you been doing since your surgeries?

Dianna,  I sure hope you find a doc that listens...I was in the hospital for 7 days out for 2 back in for 3 because I got illisus...gas loops, and was so nausiated and vomiting while I was home.  But have been home since that.  Recovery takes at least 3 months to get some strength back and he said a year to a year and a half to fully recover.

So it is day 28 for me and feeling good, very little pain and I would not really call it pain but uncomfortable where my scar is.  I eat almost whatever I want but in sm. portions like a oz or 2 at a time and ever 2-3 I eat something.  I will tell you what when I came out of the recovery room I knew my problems were over I already felt better except for the surgery pain and stuff.
I eat and then it comes out later, not a problem.  I starved myself for so long and then when I would eat gosh what misery.

Depending on your surgeon and your intestines they took my whole colon and reconnected me and wow everything works.  Some people end up with a stoma or colostomy thing but I think those are the ones with chrones disease.

for me it was a blessing.  So I hope they help you, I did not have anyone who wanted to truly do anything for me so I found a surgeon on my own and told him what was going on and he got all my reports from all the other doc's, and had me do another sitz test, and mine were all in there and did not move.  So went to the doc on a monday and had surgery on that friday.

Best of luck to you dear.
Leslie...Just got home from getting a burger and although it was a sm one it was good one...LOLnono

Dianna...Hey girl, ask for Valium next time you take a MRI that is what they give me a half hr before...makes it a lot easier.   The sitz marker will not interfer with your fun, all it is , is a pill with 28 little rings in it and they travel through your intestines and colon and so on.  I had it done twice and mine never moved, the were at the beginning of my colon and never travled anywhere.

I was feeling pretty good today so I went to Urgent Care to get some antibiotics for my sinus infection and that took forever, then to the store to pick up the meds and that was another hr...OMG it was too soon to do all that by myself,,  wore me out and now I am hurting like a big dog...LOL....awwww, pain meds...now, starting to back off the pain.

I was up and sitting too long...
So have fun on your trip..

Hey Leslie. thanks for the info on the valium believe me if I need to do it again I will make sure to get valium. When they scheduled this appt. they never said it was a closed mri . I should have asked. I'm looking forward to my trip. I hope you feel better. I can't wait to see my GI doctor and get the results of these test, I am so tired of feeling like crap. I'm so tired of taking laxitives every day and having nause and bloating and sometimes vomitting from taking so many laxitives. You know it's funny that all the doctors I've seen alway push laxitives but then tell you that your condition could be from laxitive abuse go figure. I imagine that after 10 years of laxitives my colon probable does not work properly. Now while I do the stitz marker test no laxitives , I will be hurting for sure but I don't care because I want the test. Anyway I hope that you are resting and getting enough fluids. I will talk to you soon.

DIANNA, sweetie, I know exactly how you feel because that is how I was.  My doc never pushed laxative pills just the mirilax but that never worked.  When I had not gone for 19 day, I had drank a bottle of mirilax, go lightly, 2 bottles of citris mag. and nothing.  The er doc accused me of laxative abuse and sent me home.  I was so pissed because the other er doc 4 days before gave me the go lightly,  I just added the others cuz I was desperate and thought for sure that would work but no.

Thats when I found my surgeon and he did the surgery.  I am sure your going to find out that your colon is not working either.

Just think all these tests are a means to and end and if your markers are all in your colon and he wont do anything.  Find a surgeon that will.

You have a good evening..

Dianna,  wow have a good time on Vacation cuz you need it.  My sister lives in West Palm,  I live in Oregon.  My father moved us here when I was 9 from Michigan where I was born.
How long before they x-ray you for your sitz?  Mine was five days...I am doing well and feel wonderful, so hopefully you will be to soon.
My doctor said he never saw anyone so excited to have such a huge surgery, but I told him I knew that it was going to make me better and give me my life back.  He just thinks I am funny cuz everytime I see him now post-surgery I thank him over and over again. plus he is a hunk, so easy on the eyes.

So you try to feel as good as you can for your vacation.

turn Hey Leslie, My xray will be 5 days after I take the pills, so next wed I will Have the xray and then I see the doctor on April 7. I can't wait. If he tells me I need to have my colon removed I will be like you ready to go for it. I already have my office prepared for if I need to take time off so thats is cool. My office manager is very supportive because her brother is dying of pancreatic cancer stage 4 and her father died of kidney cancer. I know I worry about cancer because my father had 13 brothers and sisters and 10 of them died of cancer, but I figured if I had cancer I would probably be dead by now. So  I will  have a good time in orlando. We are staying in a nice hotel and will be going to medevil times friday night then on saturday Island of adventure. I will talk to you when I get back on sunday.

Dianna  Have you had any blood work done, to see if you have cancer?  That would help ease your mind...when you see the doc and he tells you your colon is not working tell him you need the surgery done now, not later, cuz you are just to sick, it worked for me...

Here is hoping you have had a good time in Orlando and that you feel good enough to enjoy it..

Hey Leslie, I'm back from orlando. We had a great time. Our condo was beautiful. The only thing was my stomach. Since I'm on day3 of my sitz marker test I can't take any laxitives until wed. I look about 6 months pregnant now by wed I will look 9. I was not able to eat alot  and we went out to eat every meal and I could only take 5-6 bites of food. Last night we went to the Hard Rock Cafe that was alot of fun. I had a couple of drinks and felt pretty good until this am , but I will make it. You inspire me to keep going because I know there will be a end soon. I will talk to you soon . I need to unpack and go the the store because my daughter brittany says I don't keep any good food for her (junk food)lol.

I am so happy you had a great time...ya your going to have to wait to get rid of the build up till after the x-ray's..but I did it so you can to.  Just limit your intake of food while your on the pill.  But I like you could not wait to do a enema to get rid of all the poooo.  But it is totally worth it.  Your going to think just because your full of poo that the markers wont move, but they will if your colon is working properly...so can't wait to hear your results...

Take care and rest up and get the daughter her junk food just reminder her its not good for her....LOL

Best of luck Dianna
