What does it mean if your stoma is enlarged?! I only had surgery 7 weeks ago and of course my stoma was swollen for a week or two after the surgery but then it shrunk as its supposed to do. But I have since had to cut my bag hole bigger twice.
My stoma opening also faces downwards but as well as the outside rim of the stoma getting bigger, so is the main section - so it seems like more of it is coming out (a bit like when you squeeze toothpaste out of the tube - it looks like more has been squeezed out!)

(I did post on here titled 'pain behind stoma' - I don't know if this has anything to do with it.)

Hope that makes sense!!

Have you gained any weight? Even 5 lbs can change the size/shape of your stoma!

do you still have the pain behind your stoma? how much more of the stoma is now out? have you contacted your surgeon yet? if not, then you should. and he should see this too.

I reckon since it had shrunk down after surgery about 8mm of intestine has come out further. Also I am going to see the stoma nurse on Tuesday and have my surgery follow up appt with my surgeon on Friday.

So you reckon this is slightly unusual? I was wondering about a prolapse or a hernia, but I'm so new to all this ileostomy/stoma business I don't really have a clue, I just worry!!

please don't worry. and don't jump into any conclusions yet. we're just throwing ideas, but surely we can't know anything. maybe it's nothing serious. let us know what the stoma nurse sais.
