You aren't that far out yet, it may stil take time. Some things that cause gas are veggies and fruits and coke. What are you eating when you notice the most gas?

I HAVENT EATEN ANYTHING THAT DRASTIC I DIDNT THINK-FOR A COUPLE MOS WAS STICKING TO A LOW RESIDUE DIET FOR THE MOST PART. CANT PUT A FINGER ON WHAT IS TRIGGERING WHATEVER IS GOING ON. I DONT HAVE ANY DR TO ASK OR DIETICIAN-THOUGHT about CALLING UP A G.I DR AND ASKING about  WHAT TO DO AND NOW I THINK I HAVE REALLY BAD HEMORROIDS AND NOTHING IS HELPING THOSE -I DONT DO SODA POP, OR RAW VEGGIES OR RAW FRUIT-ONLY FRUIT HAS BEEN BANANS AND CANNED FRUTE-NO BEANS OR CORN, OR FIBROUS FOODS FOR THE MOST PART. IT IS WHERE I DONT KNOW WHAT TO EAT AND I HURT DOWN THERE ALL THE TIME .

I had a total colectomy not a subtotal colectomy but it can't be much different as far as diet goes. You seem to be avoiding all the right things, but some foods will affect different people differently. I learned that gummie treats or fruit snacks or twizzlers or anything like that will make me INSANELY crampy, and that's something that I would never read in a diet. I would call your surgeon and ask him for advice on foods, especially if you're in any pain!
UC diagnosis at age 7
Was in and out of remission for years
Total colectomy October 2011
Returning Feb 2012 to get the j pouch
Returning May 2012 to this bag taken off forever and be normal and healthy for once, can't wait!

I cannot even get a CT scan to rule out stenosis for stomal food blockages from my current surgeon. Maintains everything is fucntional. SO why has everything FUCNTIONED up til now? Still waging that battle. So I guess out to sea on next cruise not knowing if I have a stenosis or some issue that could cause an issue crossing the Atlantic twice. PCP said would order and still may. I really got the run around with trying to schedule this a.m. Office said I schedule, the scheduler said the office schedules. The PCP is likely trying to get the order in, I have faith in her, but the system, the cycle, one thing that leads to another, so unreal. Just a frustration story to match those above.

What to eat always an issue. I am into protein shakes at this point. I am giving up food for awhile. Rosemary

hi there. I had a subtotal colectomy on 9th Jan and am in the same boat. Sometimes it is like water and sometimes I even get constipated after eating the same foods.

I also have piles confused

I don't know about not eating large portions, I can eat LOADS but also sometimes get gas problems and really miss my fruit, veggies and salads.

I find things like mayonnaise help to thicken stool, eat it with chips, or tuna etc  and a banana every day. Also stewed apple is easy to digest it produces and enzyme when cooked that can help apparently.

I did find a useful link but don't have it to hand, I shall come back with that. :)

what are piles??? i never know what i can or cant eat-sometimes things give me gas or pains or diarhea or whatever and sometimes they dont. i do eat a banana nearly every day-how do yo stew apples-my regular dr told me to keep a low fiber diet-so wouldnt apples be kind of on the high fiber end??? i had tuna fish sandwich for lunch today...... you can email me directly during the day if you want at kacurtiss@mt.gov

Montana, Have you hooked up with a good GI doc? I finally did and he is helping me to get things sorted. I got the same blank stare from my current surgeon (original one who saved me retired.) BUT I know the stare. BTW piles are hemherroids in the above post. GOOD LUCK!

My GI said that sometimes having a surgery for whatever reason can affect the function of our guts. It does make total sense as nerves and so on are disrupted. Not know what to tell you except good luck and am thinking of you. Rosemary
