Please I need some advice I had ileostomy reversal on March 07 2012, I have been having diarrhoea up till now, my stomach GROWLS RIOTOUSLY. I feel as if I have water stored in my belly as I hear it wobbling like a faucet. My stomach is bloated and a little hard. Are these NORMAL effects of an ileostomy reversal?

Could someone please advise me on hw to deal with these issues especially the NOISES in my STOMACH?

I had my illeostomy reversal on March 15 and I thought I was going to die, the stomach pain was unbearable and the bloating hurt too, I looked like I was about 4 months pregnant. It all went away with time. I walked as much as possible, drank fluids religiously and avoided pain medicine because it can cause constipation. I didnt start eating solid foods right away, I slowly re-introduced myself to solids.
When I went back to see my doctor he said it was all normal and would pass and sure enough it has!

Thanks for your response, but please is the loud growling noises part of your experience and sounds of a belly full of liquid.

I can hear the liquid traveling down my guts and yes! I feel like 4 months pregnant and my stomach is distended.

I am so worried that the sound will NOT STOP hunting me as it is so loud.

Please confirm if you have experienced any of the issues I mentioned above and how you dealt with them and how long it has taken for you to come back to normal.

I TRULY appreciate your words of encouragement as I have been so concerned.

Yes, my stomach growled so loud it would wake my husband up at night, my stomach was incredibly distended.
I promise it will get better, I thought it would never end, I thought the surgery was a mistake, mine started feeling better after I started eating solids again, now I just have an occasional cramp every once in a while.

I can vouch for what blessed momma said. I had pretty bad gas pains for about three weeks and my stomach groaned constantly. Walking and a lot of liquids helps a lot. I also stuck with the ostomy diet for a while, so as not to introduce any additional variables while I still had the gas. It eventually went away and things are back to normal.

Thanks Blessed momma, guess what I was hospitalized again om 04/11/12. I went for a simple Cat Scan because of the water logged in my stomach, come to find out that I had obstruction of my intestines. I was discharged last nite. I am really having a rough time. This was supposed to be a simple hysterectomy and I ended up with a partial obstruction of my intestines, then a vaginal rectal fistula, and that is how I got the ileostomy bag to allow the inside of the vagina to heal. I had the reversal of the ileostomy on 03/07/12 and I was happy my ordeal was over then I ended up in hospital again.

It is the Grace of God that I am still alive and I know he will pull me through all this. I am currently feeding through a PICC line my vein until further notice. Please join me thank God for all his mercies and for him to heal me completely.

Thanks for all your support may god bless and guide you and bring you back whole.

I've been having some rough pains this week as well. I went to the doctor today and they gave me some pills to help the pain in my intestines and there treating me for a bladder infection as well, I'm praying that works.

And I will keep you in my prayers as well!

Congrats on the reversal : ]
I asked several times while in the hospital for beani and gasx and they said I could'nt have it, Im not sure if they meant just while in hospital, but after I got over the initial gas pains I have been fine since. I would assume beano will work if you need it. After my reversal my gas pains were gone by around day 11 and Ive been good since

Blessedmomma2: Thanks for your answer to my post regarding Beano, etc. Guess I'll just ask if I feel I need it. This site has been very informative for me but guess I'll have to wait and see how I react.
