Hey everyone!

I am so frustrated with my illeostomy.  It changes size & then I get the burning red sores break down etc.  Nobody told me much of anything when I got the bag.  They showed me how to put it on & said to be careful not to make it too tight or I would kill it.  Put on the skin prep as close as possible but don't touch it.  I did all that but it just seems to be constantly irritated I guess because it is constantly changing size.  I only have about 3 weeks left to my take down.  I can't wait.  I was really positive & recovering so well but then about thurs.  of last week It seemed like things were getting worse instead of better.  I am using the Convatec gentle touch two piece.  The piece that is attached to me the whole thing burns is uncomfortable & feels like is pulling.  Maybe I just need to get used to it.  The nurses don't seem to think it is that big of a deal.  Maybe I am having a reaction to the skin prep uh...duh.  My insurance doesn't cover anything because it is a temporary need.  I called Hollister for samples but by the time they get here I shouldn't need them anymore.  The Dr. said everything is on track & this should all settle down when it stops resizing.  Sorry to ramble on I am just so new to this I don't know what to do or what is normal.  How long until it stops re sizing?

Hey New2UC,
My j-pouch first step was Nov.16, and i would say my little clyde stopped shrinking around abouts the middle of January..about 2 1/2 mos out...sorry to give you the bummer news. But i had a fistula from trauma from surgery, which has JUST (hopefully truly) healed and i am scheduled for reconnection on May 23...but it is rough. What i use is HOllister New Image 2-piece Lock n Roll Drainable Beige pouches...convex wafers cuz my stoma is so small and close to the skin (may be your problem too). Sounds like you arent getting a good adhesive for your skin. I developed allergies to certain wafers a week in to using them, same with Eakin seals. So this is really good on my skin, same with Flextend Skin Barriers to use as an extra protection under my wafer...i really had one HECK of a time with bags at first, i was perplexing my ostomy nurse...but using a skin barrier, and then i also use skin prep which adds a film that is tacky to make your wafer stick better seemed to help. Also, i use Adapt paste cuz it has a lot less alcohol content and doesnt sting on me much...i hope this was helpful..

It will always get better...always

J-Poucher; 1st step 11/16/04, 2nd step scheduled for 05/23/05...pouch-vaginal fistula...healed?!

I finally feel FREE!!!!

Thanks-Sorry yesterday was not a good day at all. I am better today. Thanks for the advice. My surgery went very well & hopefully I can get reconnected in 3 weeks could be 5 doc still unsure so it sounds like right about the time I feel better & am able to reconnect I will get my sample pouches from Hollister & my stoma will calm down. At least there's an end in sight which is more then I could say for my UC.
