I'm just recently post-op, so I forget if this is temporary...but why am I supposed to not drink pop/soda? Is it carbonation filling the bag or something more sinister?

I had basically given up pop before surgery b/c of its effects on my UC so it's not a big deal, but pop is just one of those strange things I really crave once in awhile.

I had soft drinks all the time when I had mine. There's nothing that says you can't have them except for right after surgery. Forget how many weeks i waited - maybe 3 or 4. The carbonation did fill my bag with gas but it was worth it!

It just gives you more gas, and right out of surgery you will have lots of gas anyway. I drink it, I just know if I do I will have more gas. It won't hurt anything.

Oh, and it can thin your output, the sugar and such. Even the diet ones can do that. They also don't count as something to hydrate you, so you have to be careful to drink water also.

I am not a huge soda drinker, but once in a while I indulge. Especially when I go out to eat and there are endless refills:) I have not noticed that soda causes any more gas than I would generally have anyway. My pouch tends to balloon up throughout the day whether or not I have had any of the foods or beverages on the "gassy" list. Regular sugar soda doesn't make my output watery, though sometimes beverages with artificial sweeteners or sugar alcohols like sucralose do if I drink them on an empty stomach.

I have no clue...no one told me that. I had a Coke on the way home from the hospital after step 1. I dont recall it bothering me. I'm not a soda drinker on a regular basis though.
