Are any of these common after post-op?

I'm 5 months post-op and awaiting takedown next month. These past 2 months, I've been experiencing a lot of nausea (no vomiting) and a weird sensation around my chest and throat area. I've never had these kind of symptoms before.
DX UC in 2008 (left-sided), had symptoms since 2006.
Cancerous polyp of 2 cm found in colonoscopy 09/2012.
Surgery for total colectomy 11/08/2012.
Take down some time around April/May 2013.

I get something that's kind of a dirty burn? I don't now how to describe it. I was guessing it was always acid reflux. It's increased since my surgery, but that's also might be because I've gained weight from pred leading up to surgery.

But seriously, if you don't like those, I always use the canada pink wintergreen mints too..been doing that since I was a kid and they work great!
Of course I am still on prilosec..but that doesn't always work :(

Hi,

I had colectomy and reversal, 4 and 2 yes ago respectively (UC). The only slight blot on an otherwise perfect bill of health has been a recurrent acid reflux/gastritis. I have often wondered if its related to the surgeries.

I see. Thanks for the feedback. My GI had prescribed me some meds for acid reflux but they don't seem to be working. He wants to do an endoscopy? to look into my stomach but I'm afraid that it won't show anything. He did blood work and everything was fine.

This is something off topic, but has anybody ever had a colonoscopy (when you obviously still had your colon) and an endoscopy done at the same time? My very first GI way before I was diagnosed did both at the same time and I used to think it was insane.

How were they able to diagnose that you had acid reflux/gastritis?

Yup, colonoscopy and endoscopy were always done at same time..no big deal.
That is how they got the acid reflux..it is a good idea to have it done, that way you can see if it is doing any damage to the esophagus..
Some things that help, don't eat 2-3 hours before bed..nothing spicy, or gassy before bed, prop head of your bed up about 6 inches..wintergreen or peppermint helps for some,
I would call nad let him know the meds he gave aren't helping..try adding some tums with it, it may just need a boost..or he may tell you to change it altogether..
Acid reflux stinks..makes you feel like a flame swallower!
Good luck :)

I have not been officially diagnosed. I had it in the past, then I think it went away when I lost weight, and now it's back. Right now I'm taking Tagamet and that takes care of it. I plan to discuss with with my GI in June. I know it's not good to ignore this long term, but I don't think it's worth an early appointment.

hi penny, I too had a colonoscopy/endoscopy at the same time. I believe when you need both it is quite standard to do together. In my case I happened to wake up a little in the middle (twilight sedation only) which was not fun, but probably unrelated to the fact of having two scopes in one shot.
