Can anyone help? Had an Illestomy in November still having some problems with stools. One day it will be liquid then the next pasty. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a solution.

If you have an ileostomy, what you're experiencing is perfectly normal. It really depends on what you've been eating and drinking. Stool with an ileostomy will be of a toothpaste like consistency at best. Mine can go from watery to pasty within the same day. I never worry about it. What will be, will be :)
I have had an ileostomy for 31 years now due to UC.

I agree with Shaz-

I get watery when I have salad or fresh fruit....and greasy, greasy food. Ask your ostomy nurse for a list of foods that will help thicken your stool. Off hand I know marshmellows will do this.

thanks for the information.

Is there a secret to the days when it is too pasty? have tried fruit juices, increasing my fluid intake, and eating vegetables. Is there something else I could try?

This will be a permanent illeostomy so I would like to learn as much as I can.

It seems I empty a lot at night too. Is this normal? Sometimes it will be almost every hour to hour and half.
