MARY
Don't be living in fear. It won't help. I just had a transverse colostomy (permanent). I too have a whole lot of various severe ailments and in addition I am overweight and out of shape. My cardiologist told me flat out that I could not survive major surgery, or if by chance I did I would be little more than a vegetable. My surgeon told me that I would die soon and very painfully of a complete bowel obstruction unless I did have surgery. When the chips are all in, there was not much of a choice left. I had the surgery. I feel better now than I have for several years. I have more vitality, no pain and a whole new outlook. You can do this, Just remember what the alternative is.
God bless you and good luck. Ralph yeah

I had my ileostomy in 2004 and was terrified but I am here now to tell the tale and feel much better. I am a new lady so I don't know whether you have had the op yet? Have faith you are still here with your many ills so one more isn't going to challenge you.

Unfortunately, Mary, your surgeon is best placed to answer those questions. He/she will look over your medical history and advise whether it's safe for you or not. You need to advise him/her of your allergies too so alternative arrangements can be made.

Good luck.
I have had an ileostomy for 31 years now due to UC.

yes my surgeon is very nice and is supportive,..... although they totally don't worry about me dying and down play the last time I almost died....of course they want to believe the best and I do too but my brain problem (chiari malformation) can make surgery very dangerous...the dr. says they will take great care....but I still know how I almost died 4 years ago from a minor day surgery for kidney stones.....I almost called off the surgery today.....I have been crying and very upset.....I keep praying for God to give me the answer but I have not heard anything from him yet.....please tell me how you felt right when you woke up ....were you in alot of pain....did you have an NG tube or respirator in.....I had one before and that scares me too....thanks so much for all your replies and any one can email me at maryviolin1@yahoo.com
