This is the first time my ostomy leaked in years. Maybe 10 years or so. Luckily I was at home. I only had it on for only 2 days! It can really play with your head...ya know??? Now, I get to go through that paranoia all overr again...

I feel the pain there. I had one pretty much esplode while i was at a hockey game. Had to get up and walk out all bent over, then make the trek out of the building and walk about 3 blocks to the car.

oh nice

Man, that sucks!!! At least I was at home. I only had to deal with the annoyance and not the embarrassment.

sorry to hear that, mine has been doing it too recently. talk about paranoia, everytime I think I smell something, I run into the bathroom to check it out.  I have had crohns now for 25 yrs and I never get used to this thing. I am always afraid to make plans, because I never know if the bag may need to be changed.  It's not easy, I feel for you. Like you I am just venting too. I never where my shirt tucked in anymore because my bag always fills up with air and puffs out, therefore I always wear my shirts out.  I really hate that look, but what can you do.

My fiance' was in a car accident 6-5-07 and is having to deal with a temporary colostomy and ileostomy. Last Sunday his wafers kept allowing leaks and we had to change things 5 times. He is very discouraged with life right now. I keep wondering what I may be doing wrong. I panic every time he eats hoping that things stick this time and he is able to have a days peace without having to be cleaned up so many times. This forum is wonderful. Being able to learn from others mistakes helps me alot.

To NewDogmom.  The best advice i can give for the leaks is to have him try different wafers, appliances, whatever they call 'dem tings.

I used a one piece appliance after i had my surgery. It worked for a while but as i became more active it leaked a lot. Which is where my story about it exploding at a hockey game came from. I've tried a few different appliances and it seems the 2 pieces version works best for me. Haven't had any MAJOR problems since really.  They always seem ready to leak.

Newdogmom- Slice is right. Try different appliances and paste or tape or any combination until you get the right fit! It might seem all too complicated at first, but after 18 years with an ostomy I can change my appliance with my eyes closed. Hey, maybe THAT'S been my problem!!!
